Man, this makes me pine for the days when there used to some great stuff in the papers.

If only Bill Waterson would come out of retirement and give the industry the bitchslap it so rightly deserves.

Whatever happened to the new Opus strip that Berke Breathed launched last year? None of the papers here picked it up, so I never got to see it and I never hear talk of it.

My newspaper carries it. It's alright, but I'm not too keen on it, so I just stick to reading my Bloom County Books.

"The problem with new experiences is that they're so rarely the ones you choose."

I loved this comic so much as a kid, and the best part is I enjoy it even more now that I'm older.

This cannot be legal. It's wonderful, but it HAS to be illegal.

Jesus... reading his speeches... this is positively HAUNTING. He's talking about how newspapers are failing because of television's predominance in the news world. Basically he mentions all the problems with newspapers and syndication, and how the art form is being destroyed (and this was in the 80s if I'm reading it right.) So then he makes this suggestion to fix things:

"First of all, we should keep in mind that newspapers and syndicates are by no means essential to the production of comic. There are all sorts of ways to publish cartoons, and if syndicates and newspapers won't hold up their end of the bargain, maybe there's an opportunity for a new kind of publisher let's start with eliminating both the syndicate and the newspaper."

I wonder if Watterson likes the idea of his comics being available to read free of charge online. I can't decide if I think he would or not!

It takes up 1/2 of the Boston globe's sunday funnies front page. It's horrible. I just... don't get it, at all. Probabaly the most obnoxious strip in the paper. x/

same with the washington post, though i don't think it's quite the biggest waste of ink and space on sundays- prince valiant and those soap-opera comics aren't that exciting either. not to mention that the soap opera strips' art keeps deteriorating..
