Title: Music You Make
Post by: Johnny C on 24 Feb 2005, 17:46
Hey guys. I just put a new song of mine up on the inter-web yesterday, and thought "Gee, I wanna spread the love." Then I realized it would be kind of just self-whoring if the whole thing was about me. Plus, I know some of you on here make music, so I decided to open up a topic for all of y'alls to share music you have made and put online.

Mine is available here (http://www.thefortunatesun.com/music). I look forward to hearing from other folks!

I have a few "songs" that I've been meaning to upload. They're weird, to put it mildly. Mostly it's just me fucking around with my instruments and recording software.

My music (mostly covers) will be re-recorded when I go home at Easter. In the meantime, however, I'm recording an instrumental version of a song I wrote as we speak, I'll post a link when it's done

i sing & play the guitar a little.  although, i haven't played the guitar properly in nearly 6mths, as i do not have a guitar tuner.  i should probably do something about that.

i should get my bass back out, although i was never that good, and even if i get somewhat competent, i don't know anyone around here that plays music.

Here we go. (http://www.personal.leeds.ac.uk/~mat4cft/Song%203.mp3)

I did try re-recording this last night, but it didn't have quite the same feel. There is one mistake in this version though.

Ok, the production on some of the stuff here is fairly shocking, but the songs can at least be heard. We're a far better proposition live. Feel free to hate it, if thats your thing!

  Enjoy! (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/writePage.cfm?bandid=278456&bandnamesave=metapop)

P.S blindsuperhero: thats some mighty cool guitar niceness.

Thanks!

dontstaylong:
This is strange, given that it's really well produced and is very professional sounding, but a lot of the rhythm is off. The vocals are very good, but it's quite off-putting when things are noticeably out of time with each other. But overall not bad.

And to be honest, I can't see the Radiohead influence, but hey.
Title: Music You Make
Post by: dontstaylong on 25 Feb 2005, 12:17
haha... yup.  that would be due to our drummer not being able to play to a click well.  and the edits taking so damn long we finally had to just give the guy the money and take what he'd done.  not exactly the proudest of that cd, but at least the production sounds good.

needless to say, we've got a new drummer now.

and the radiohead influence is moreso on some other songs we've not recorded, and just as a general "hey, we all like this band" thing, not that our music necessarily sounds like it.

thanks for the compliments though.

Also thanks! I had a listen to your band (I'll try to get round to everyone who's posted here eventually), I could only get "Colossus" and "Disco Disco" to work, but another band with an excellent singer, and looking past the pretty lo-fi production it's good stuff, I can imagine it being good live too.

In the spirit of a) Lo-fi and b) breaking up the succession of good singers, here are two songs recorded when I was in a teenage hardcore punk rock band about 3 years ago, yes that's me singing, I like to think I rock a kind of Kevin Seconds vibe.

Track 1: Why are mushrooms good at parties?
Because they're Fun Guys To Be With (http://www.personal.leeds.ac.uk/~mat4cft/01%20-%20Fun%20Guys%20To%20Be%20With.mp3). This song has nothing to do with drugs, thankyou very much
Track 2: How do we stop our bass player drinking beer so fast?
Put him on a Beer Drip (http://www.personal.leeds.ac.uk/~mat4cft/02%20-%20Beer%20Drip.mp3) (kinda the opposite of a beer bong). Contains some of my finest rhyming lyrics.

This was, in true DIY style, actually recorded on a 4-track tape recorder. Also in true punk style, our drummer had never played the drums before joining the band. I'm not a drummer, yet I taught him everything he knew. I hope that goes someway towards explaining things :)

My hardcore band has a demo up on the interweb, but honestly, I don't really feel like posting it, part because the recording is shitty, part because I'd risk starting the whole "hardcore sucks" thing all over again.

If you really want it, convince me.

I love these threads.

Here's a song by me and a friend.  I posted it here a while ago, but I've made some minor changes since then.

And then there's my off-and-on band, also in the signature.

I am slowly but surely moving up in the world of recording equipment.  I recorded all that stuff on my laptop.

I'm feeling ambitious for this 1-week break from classes; I want to get at least five songs recorded.  Some of them need to be written first, though.  I'll come back and post a couple if they turn out alright.

I have a really pathetic acoustic demo I threw together this morning, as well as a few older things. This is the best one that shows off my voice, but I kinda think I want to rerecord at least the guitar lines, so I'm not sure if I want to show it off yet or not. The thing that bothers me most of all is there's a terrible whine/hum going through each track I used to record, and I haven't tried to remove it yet. I actually think I had the mic volume up a bit too high when recording :/

If I get one of the bootlegs of my band's shows converted into MP3 form, then I'll post those eventually.

i have two projects, plus a third inwhich i'm merely involved.

a) the vinegar works : pink - demo (http://home.earthlink.net/~nova_sol/the%20vinegar%20works%20~%20pink%20-%20demo.mp3)
this is my whatever i feel like doïng project.  this track is a cover ov the chemlab song, for an upcouming tribute (which is as official as a motherfucker; jared bitches at us when we seem to be taking too long!).

b) nova sol :  stricken (radio edit) (http://home.earthlink.net/~david626/nova%20sol%20~%20stricken%20%5bradio%5d.mp3)
this is my general electronica project.  this particular track is very party-oriënted drum & bass.

c) typozorg : neurozone [snippet] (http://home.comcast.net/~dogulas/neurozonesnip1.mp3)
this project is run by d. sudia (UCNX, symmetry) and john monette (UCNX, nVIR).  i just do some loopage and sampling.  i put together most ov the intro.  this track is also goïng to be on the chemlab tribute.

i'm downloading stuff now, but since i'm on dialup, it could be a while before i get back to all ov you.

Here's my cruddy electronica project:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/halooffliesmusic.htm

Salvation, Vicious Square and Thrill of the Hunted are the best. Also, could anyone give me some idea as to what genre I'm actually churning out? I just stuck it in industrial because I think that's the coolest genre.

@Blindsuperhero: The guitar thingy's cool. As for the hardcore band...It wouldn't be uncharitable to stay you should stick with your guitar, would it? ^_^

I'll have a listen to malice's when I've got some time too.

Holy shit. Not only is he making awful music inspired by ICP (Very heavily inspired, tbh), but he's stolen his entire image from a cooler band he is almost certainly unaware of the existence of, namely the mighty industrial black metallers Count Nosferatu Kommando (http://thecnk.free.fr/CNK1024.html).

"Rock With Me" does, and you can tell from it how crappy a drummer I am.

Go ahead, you have no idea how much that would make you my hero. Send me an e-mail or somethin' and I can maybe send you some basic drumlines.

Ciao!

Bitter Campari is my band, and we have 3 songs from our 4 song ep up on a purevolume account: http://www.purevolume.com/bittercampari

The first two are kind of an indie pop thingy, but if you're not into sugary melodic sounds, check out the last track, as it is a mini-epic rocker. Also, the last track isn't seven minutes, it's only 3.5 and then there's a hidden track.

Johnny - We did it all bedroom recording style. Mic'd up the drums and guitar amp through an 8 track, into a computer and used some Adobe program (my drummer is also an aspiring producer, so he'd be able to tell you more about it). For bass, we didn't have our bassist so we just used a guitar with absolutely no treble, lol.

Skibas_Clavicle - We are doing another run of the full CD package (we hand paint all of our CDs, and create all of our liner notes) in a few weeks time. If you're interested, my e-mail is [email protected]. Just put Bitter Campari somewhere in the subject line.

Johnny C : Pretty good stuff.  "At Home And Abroad" is my favorite.

blindsuperhero:  Cool song... Nice an meeelllllooooowwww

MetaPop: Couldn't find a link to the music with out signing up...

dontstaylong: I really like 'Less Than a Dream'... Sounds great!

Silverfish: Uh... Not really my kind of music so I don't know what to say.  It does sound well produced, though.

mAlice aforeThought:  Very... intersting.

KharBevNor: Wish I could hear your stuff, but I won't sign up to websites to hear stuff.

I Am Not Amused:  I don't really go for emo... But your stuff is pretty good.

kikanjuuneko: Uh... I don't like Hardcore so I'm not sure what to say.  I guess it is interesting.

macktheknife: I kind of dig it!  Groovy stuff, man!

I don't currently have anything by me on the web to show you...

But you should go to http://www.lastridein.com to hear my brother's band.  He plays the drums and writes all of the music for his band.

I like to think of it as EBM, Chip music and Neo-Folk having a bar brawl. In bikinis.

Or something.

There's a couple of other tracks I've made that I think are any good, but they're more sort of filler.  Into the Forest of the Night (http://fileserv1.soundclick.com/fastk6/HiD/haloofflies+intotheforestofthenight.mp3) is the only one I've uploaded. The other two are short keyboard instrumentals entitled 'Unawakening' and 'The Ghost in the Piano'.

Currently my musical expression is limited by having no means to record either my voice or my guitar.

I make music, under the same name as well this name. Basically I have no muscial talents. So I make "Noise,Enviromental,Power Electronics,Ambient,Dronology,Minimal"

Also I have a project with a friend, yet its a very slow process, we don't get much time to work together probarly called Kao Therapy. Which is mainly glitch, idm, digital hardcore and messed up well can't really explain it.

I have an EP and a possible album and a split cassette coming out. Yet I have no idea when it will get sorted out.
