I jest. My mate used to go see muse all the time before they released Showbiz, and Coldplay used to play a lot of gigs with them, Chris Martin used to share his lockets with them...
And the only 'I was there first' was when I saw Parva playing with Miss Black America. Parva then split up, reformed and became The Kaiser Chiefs. They were shit.

Same. Well, I'm not sure it was before epTwo but it was definitely before they were all over the tv. They were supporting Rival Schools United By Fate (later shortened to Rival Schools, either that or they got the name on the flyer wrong) back when people only went to see them because of Walter Schreifels. Neither of them were very good, but apparently I missed the acoustic Gorilla Biscuits covers he did after I left for the last bus.

I know he's relatively new anyway, but last October, he played first on the bill for 22-20s. I called the record company to blag it, but they were pretty dismissive, assuming I was doing the 'get in to see the main band using the support as an excuse' thing, but after much ranting, got my ticket and an interview. He turned up two hours later than he was supposed to (the doors had already opened), soundchecked for half a song with a badly tuned guitar which the other band tuned for him in his absence, gave me a beer, played, then did the interview..he was one of the loveliest people ever, also played an acoustic set out on Brighton Beach for all the people who'd missed his set...
A few months later, he's being namedropped by everyone from the guardian to NME to every psuedo scenester, and his gigs have all sold out...
So I can feel smug about that, until I realise that this means I may not be able to go and see him.
Damn.

a) Hum and Mercury Rev
b) Poster Children twice (once opening for Sponge, once by themselves)
along with
c) Clutch opening for Marilyn Manson
d) Radiohead opening for REM
e) No Doubt in Deep Ellum for a buck
f) Eve's Plum opening for My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult
and, back in '93, I saw Blind Melon play the Convention Center in Columbus, MS.

Man, only seeing with famous bands AFTER they've formed and started making music is so lame . . . 1988, I was in Year 3 at the Junction Primary School in Newcastle, New South Wales, and the class clown was Ben Gillies, future drummer for silverchair.
. . . Can't help thinking it'd be a much better anectode if I was actually a fan of their music.

i don't know if this will mean anything to any of you, but when i was going through my 'scremo' phase i saw boysnightout in their HOMETOWN (oh no, not Toronto.. but Orillia Ont. ), that was maybe a year and a half to two years ago.

My Mum was all set to see Jimi Hendrix in London, but then she had an argument with her boyfriend - boyfriend had the tickets and took someone else, then after the concert he and Mum made up. Then Hendrix died. Crap.
I think she got to see Janis Joplin, though.

She also had Keith Moon's drumsticks from a gig, later had a clearout, and thought 'why would I want Keith Moon's drumsticks' and threw them out.

Oh god, you're a bastard for reminding me about this. I saw bizkit open for Korn in 96 or 97. Fred Durst said the word Faggot a lot. They were handing out promo tapes to hype the release of 3 dollar Bill, Yall.
I actually bought, andthouroughly enjoyed, that album.

Oh yeah, I have a mate who was at the gig where Oasis got signed by Alan McGee...
But, in true hipster fashion, he wasn't watching the band, he was getting lashed in the bar. He does this a lot - I bump into him at gigs, and he's stood as far away from the band as humanely possible, with his arms crossed, ranting about how shit they are.
I like him and all, but quite frankly, he can be an embarassment.

Rob the drummer has a new band called Colossal with one of the on and off trumpet players from slapstik and neil from the lawrence arms. They are amazing. They are heading out on tour with Alkaline Trio (they are far better than the trio)
Anywho, desaparedicos on their first tour before their album came out, this is also before bright eyes got way huge too.
Umm, you don't know who they are now... but will see their faces everywhere in about a month. The Forecast played in my backyard 2 years before they signed to Victory Records.

I don't know about the whole indie cred thing, but seeing British Sea Power when they supported The Flaming Lips in 2003 miiiight count for something. And when BSP got known a little better in the later part of 2003, i saw The Killers as their support.

Hehe...I dj-ed at the Killers Brighton show last year, just as they were starting to make it big. Brandon Flowers even danced to Bright Eyes, which made me happy. No-one else did, mind.

They even invited me to live at their house. Once I also met Ryan Terror of Tommy and the Terrors (http://www.tommyandtheterrors.com) at a Murphy's Law show. None of you give a shit about this, I am certain.

So how long has LCD Soundsystem been a multiplier for indie cred? I saw them at one of the half-filled tents and Coachella last year and that was my first introduction to them.
I was at the Incubus / Primus show that has already been mentioned. I used to bartend at the local outdoor venue, so for 3 years I saw many-a-band for free and even had the time to chat with some before the gates opened.
I distinctly remember Jack Osbourne cruising around on an electric razor scooter before the 1999 Ozzfest and even trying to get free beer from me. This was before the whole MTV generation got a hold of their privacy.

This Deathamphetamine track I got from that site is pretty good! Very catchy guitars. Not too keen on the vocals (a problem I have with a lot of death and grind), but you can't have everything. I imagine they kill it live too.
