Hopefully this hasn't been asked before, I didn't see any.
Anyways, whats your favorite movie Soundtracks? Mine are Band of Brothers, and King Arthur
-
I like the soundtracks to Garden State and Vanilla Sky, but at the end of the day, I like my own mix CDs better.
The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack, however, is brilliant. Second only to the Aladdin soundtrack.
-
I prefer the musical scores much better:
Jin-Roh
City of Lost Children
Donnie Darko
The Saint
Music in a movie has a large influence on my interest in the film, whether it is score or soundtrack.
For straight up soundtrack, I'm going to have to go goth-geek and say The Crow.
-
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Hated.
-
my favorite soundtrack goes to an anime called Furi Kuri (also known as FLCL and Fooly Cooly for some reason)
-
Soundtrack:
Alone in the Dark (Shitty film..AWESOME soundtrack)
Score:
Conan the Barbarian (Campy film...AWESOME score)
-
The Spawn soundtrack's pretty fun.
And, er, the stuff they play on the OC, but I've never looked to see what they put out on their compilations.
-
i love the soundtrack to Garden State... but, come on now nothing compares to the Rocky Horror Picture Show
-
... but, come on now nothing compares to the Rocky Horror Picture Show
in a guilty, geeky, nothing better to do on a saturday night but stupid fun, I'll have to give you that one.
-
hedwig and the angry inch!
-
Prolly RENT.
-
The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack, however, is brilliant.
Ah, but doesn't Rushmore feature "Concrete and Clay"?
Anyway, as every Australian knows the best soundtrack album ever is that for Young Einstein.
(EDIT: I'd also put in a vote for An American in Paris, but I think musicals should be excluded.)
-
Call me insane...I likes the second "The Matrix" soundtrack.
-
The Virgin Suicides
Lost in Translation
...
....
My mind went blank.
Damnit, where was that thought process going? :| ????
-
High Fidelity
-
Showing off my grunge roots (despite the fact I only got into grunge 4 years ago)...
Singles
-
Ugh! So many! I'm sticking straight to movies here:
Pretty in Pink
SFW
Rushmore/Royal Tenenbaums
Psycho (new and old)
The Breakfast Club
Swingers
-
I like the score to Donny Darko and Requiem for a Dream.
-
I know some of the stuff on the OC is by Evermore, a New Zealand band.
I liked them before they started getting played on pop radio, the poor guys.
They have an album called Dreams, and an EP called Oil & Water
-
Pi and Requim for a Dream
Trivia: Both directed by Darren Aronofsky, Both scores by Clint Mansell. Yeah.
-
How on earth can no-one have mentioned John Carpenter yet? Assault on Precinct 13, Escape From New York... time was he couldn't put a foot wrong. The score to Dead Man is pretty excellent too, I think someone told me that was Neil Young?
-
Team America! Holy craps how has this not come up yet? It's one thing to be funny, but to be funny AND write a catchy song is quite the achievement.
-
The Virgin Sucides and The Fifth Element. Mmm....French-ness. Although that shitty "bonus" track made up of dialogue from the film is pointless.
-
Team America! Holy craps how has this not come up yet? It's one thing to be funny, but to be funny AND write a catchy song is quite the achievement.
Listen to the stuff from Cannibal! The Musical, and you will be even more impressed with Trey Parker.
-
Pi and Requim for a Dream
Trivia: Both directed by Darren Aronofsky, Both scores by Clint Mansell. Yeah.
Wow, how could I forget those.
I'll go hang my head in shame now...
...my friend just reminded me that the American Psycho soundtrack is all my favorite cheesy 80s music. :)
-
six string samurai and ghost dog are my two favorites.
-
I have never seen, nor do I intend to see Friday Night Lights, but I heard the soundtrack is almost all Explosions in the Sky songs. That's pretty rad.
-
Forgot one! Blow.
-
The Life Equatic
Fight Club
Run Lola Run
Snatch
Garden State
Donnie Darko
Rocky Horror
High Fidelity
Once Upon A Time In Mexico
Charlie's Angels
....theres more, I jsut cant think of any right now
-
^ oooh! Donnie Darko - I totally forgot about that one...
I agree with your list.
-
The score to Dead Man is pretty excellent too, I think someone told me that was Neil Young?
Yes it is excellent, and yes it is Neil Young (with excerpts of William Blake poems read by Johnny Depp). However that great theme tune played over the opening credits only appears in a 15-minute distortion-laden version on the C.D., which is a bit disappointing.
-
Donnie Darko
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill Vol. 1
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Spiderman 1 (I like it... Maybe it's the fancy 3D cover that attracts me so much...)
Garden State
Vanilla Sky
The Virgin Suicides
The Breakfast Club
Almost Famous
I Am Sam
The Boy From Oz
Tommy
Big Fish
The Last Samurai
I can't remember any more that I like, but do you know which one sucks? Series of Unfortunate Events. Why? Because it ripped off Danny Elfman's score for Edward Scissorhands.
-
Fellowship of the Ring
The Thin Red Line
American Beauty score
...all orchestral, hmm....
-
The "Pieces of April" soundtrack is also very good - but then, it's all Stephin Merritt songs so that goes without saying!
-
The Blues Brothers
The Matrix Reloaded
Team America
Kill Bill vol 1
Pulp Fiction
Desperado
From Dusk Till Dawn
A Knights Tale
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
-
The Blues Brothers
Good call.
-
About a Boy
Garden State
Donnie Darko
-
Just about anything that RZA scores is pretty ace.
-
Royal Tenebaums
-

-

-

-
Friday
The Crow
FLCL
The Punisher
Office Space
Dracula 2000
-
life aquatic.
I must agree - who doesn't love Portuguese covers of David Bowie songs.
I'll also add most of the robert rodriguez movie soundtracks (desperado, dusk till dawn) cause I have a soft spot in my heart for Tito and Turantulla for some reason.
-
I Am Sam
Holy crap, I have to get that soundtrack. It's so beautiful, especially Rufus Wainwright's covers <3.
I just remembered Moulin Rouge. I loved that movie.
-
^^Probably because whenever one of their songs plays, you know Salma Hayek will be coming on screen :)
Mmmm, Snake dance...
-
I forgot Pulp Fiction. I can't believe I forgot Pulp Fiction.
And The Big Lebowski.
And Kill Bill Vol. 1.
-
i don't buy movie soundtracks too much, but really...
rocky horror. can't beat it.
and i've really been enjoying the life aquatic soundtrack lately. also, singin' in the rain, hair, chicago, and titan AE have awesome soundtracks.
i like showtunes.
-
Also must add that my favorite soundtrack that I own is a STARWARS LP I found at a garage sale a few years back. Rocks Socks!

-
I like the soundtracks to Garden State and Vanilla Sky
Heh, I was thinking the exact same thing! Vanilla Sky that is, what a quality soundtrack it has. Second perhaps to The Beach, rubbish film - great soundtrack.
-
(musicals and anything by Ennio Morricone omitted for brevity)
Not mentioned yet:
-Amélie
-Magnolia
-O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Needing to be mentioned again:
-The Royal Tenenbaums
-Cowboy Bebop
Best use of existing classical numbers:
-Excalibur
-Apocalypse Now (surprise, surprise)
Best shameless attempt to make a #1 hit out of the theme song:
-Shaft
-Ghostbusters
Dishonourable Mention:
-Forrest Gump
(Nothing against the songs themselves, but they were arranged like a "K-Tel salutes the 20th century!!!" mail-order compilation.)
And, like all good Top Ten lists, I'll think of the one I should have mentioned thirty seconds from now.
-
...
Koyaanisqatsi
...
Blessed Be,
-Haibane
Not sure if I'd consider that a soundtrack, but kudos to you for mentioning it! I love that series that Philip Glass did...
I'd say The Hours musical score then just because his music is amazing.
-
Best use of existing classical numbers:
-Excalibur
-Apocalypse Now (surprise, surprise)
I'm going to be a shameless film snob here, and add Tarkovsky's original Solaris to that particular part of the list.
