Anyone here play(ed) these games?
DW was the original RPG for the NES. That first game, while small in scope, was quite different then the Marios, Zeldas, and Castlevanias that were out there. A game that couldn't be beat in a single setting. You had to use your head and talk to people and figure out where to go and what to do next. And for the first one, there was no guide book! You had to do it all on your own.
DW2 introduced the multi-member party and the concept of different weapons and spells for different characters. The world expanded and you got to use a ship to sail the seas.
DW3 was the end-all for the series. Well its the last one I ever played. The world was so huge for a simple NES cartridge. Here there were 7-8 different characters to choose from. Once you finished what you thought was the game, you were taken to the "Dark World" which was an early representation of the original DW world. After the game was done, only then did you find out your destiny as the original Erdrick from the first game.
Nowadays Final Fantasy gets all the press in terms of RPGs but the one that kick-started the genre was Dragon Warrior. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

I have 3 for the GBC and I have played 7 on my PSX. I like them a lot, because I think they are great RPGs and because Akira Toriyama did the character designs.
Oh and I heard they are coming out with a new one for the PS2.

Dragon Quest VI is THE best DW and one of THE best RPG's evar.
I can't wait for VIII. I'm SO excited.

I do hope that they get DW VIII out before the PS3.

I discovered DW too late to enjoy it. I had already beaten FF on NES and Shining in the Darkness on Genesis by the time I encountered this steaming pile.

I consider the first 3 fairly lame, but the ones they didn't release over here (plus DWVII) were awesome, IMO. The games are just good, honest fun, which end up being more fulfilling experiences than most of the Final Fantasies.
DQVIII is due out sometime in the November area, which is around the time of my birthday.
