This year is amazing. So much great stuff comming out in these first months. Leaks abound, more expected later. 2006 is going to be such a killer year for awesome music.
-
Specifics?
-
Well, I was mainly referring to.
a) Mogwai - Mr. Beast
b) Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
c) Islands - Return to the Sea
d) Mates of State - Bring It Back
Feel free to add what you want, but I think this year is gonna be great. (2006 >2005 as of now might be an overstatement, but it'll be by December)
Have you guys heard the Tortoise/Bonnie Billy cover album? It's hella intruiging and different.
And who can lose with a new Arcade Fire LP on the way?
-
Many. Because there will always be people who think that Arcade Fire are overrated shlop. 1994 was the best year for music. One word: Josh Wink Higher State Of Consciousness.

Mogwai - Mr.Beast
-
I hope you're joking. n00b.
-
New Radiohead album. That's good enough for me for 2006.
About bloody time too.

Never come back here.
-
There's a new Broken Social Scene and a new The Fiery Furnaces album, correct? Keeping with tradition, Deerhoof should also put a new album out sometime this year.
-
^
*does a sex wee*
-
Electric Wizard are working on a new album.
New Unearthly Trance in April.
Sunn 0))) - Black 1 gets released on vinyl sometime this month.
So yup. Ace.
-
^
*does a sex wee*
Ehh... what?
To stay on topic, I also recall hearing somewhere that Modest Mouse is putting out a new album in 2006. Also, the Islands (ex unicorns) album is coming out this year.
-
the new 2006 Unheilig album is fucking awesome
don't ask me how I know this I swear to god officer those mp3s just appeared on my computer

Ejaculation.
-
Right on with the Islands release. If it's as good as their live show, it should be pretty freakin' cool.
But, I should admit that I don't get what all the fuss about the Arctic Monkeys is about. I downloaded a bunch of tracks and they all seem to be generic brit-rock crap.
-
They're pretty generic. I'm not really a huge fan, it was just worth mentioning amoung the leaks, esp with all the hype.
Uh - The Islands release is amazing.
And the Liars album is weird. It's really different. I'll have to give it a couple more listens before I judge.
-
AFI have a new album out soon...
-
new The Fiery Furnaces album, correct?
Shit yes. Bitter Tea, you can't come too soon.
And speaking of coming too soon, Cpt. Fantastic, I'm not sure whether to be flattered that you quoted me in your sig, considering the quote. ;)
-
Dragonforce.
Dion.
-
do you work for 2006 or something?
I can't stop giggling at this :D
-
i listened to islands a little but wasn't impressed. same with mates of state
add
belle and sebastian (new albums offically out in 2006)
new elvis costello leaked
pink mountaintops
band of horses
graham coxon
the elected
built to spill
beth orton (horrible)
and some others
-
Dragonforce.
Aye aye.
-
Would I be hoping to much to see the new Arcade Fire album released this year. Time will tell, time will tell.
he, he. Work for 2006. he, he funny
-
Dragonforce.
Aye aye.
My God, NO.
NO.
Inhuman Rampage is bloody awful.
-
From what I've heard, they continue a trend by having it sound just like everything else they've ever done.
I like Dragonforce for some light relief, but it's very much Sound and Fury Signifying Nothing.
-
new The Fiery Furnaces album, correct?
Shit yes. Bitter Tea, you can't come too soon.
An incomplete tracklist I found on thefieryfurnaces.net
'Little Thatched Hut'
'I'm in No Mood'
'Waiting to Know You'
'Teach Me, Sweetheart'
'Bitter Tea'
I'm also hoping for some new post-rock band to come out and do something... posty. Yes. Let 2006 be a year for new awesome bands along with albums from less new awesome bands!
-
I really can't praise the new Mogwai stuff enough. Glasgow Mega Snake literally rocked my socks right off and Friend Of The Night has me banging my head along to the piano.
-
Artic Monkeys make me feel ill.
Looking forward to this year:
New Metallica album and new Red Hot Chilli Peppers album.
If true also the new Radiohead album.
-
I do enjoy the Islands and B&S albums. The new Jenny Lewis album is pretty decent, too.
That said, I want me some Mates of State and Arcade Fire music.
-
Artic Monkeys make me feel ill.

New Metallica album and new Red Hot Chilli Peppers album.

Judging by your avatar being Slash you may appreciate this. I appreciate it for the comedic aspects:
Chinese Democracy is supposed to be released in march.
Yes, you heard me right. The album that's been delayed since '96 is getting the okay by Axl.
Dear god.

Mr. Beast and Bring It Back are pretty lackluster imho, and Islands is all right at best.
-
Looking forward to this year:
New Metallica album.
What are you, a masochist?
-
This just in: different people have different tastes in music.
-
Metallica hasn't put out anything listenable since 1988. I have plenty of Metallica on my computer right now. But I'm not getting my hopes up, especially since Metallica seems to have decided they like huge piles of money rather than making good music.
Plus I hate Lars Ulrich. Hatehatehate.
-
This year I am excited for new:
GWAR
Mogwai
Fiery Furnaces (if it's better than Rehearsing My Choir, gaddamit)
Dragonforce (fuck you songbird guy, they are fun)
Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully Tomahawk (Mike Patton hasn't announced anything, but Duane has hinted that there will be a new one. That means a tour. YES!)
Belle And Sebastian (are they finally doing a "return to their roots" album? Cause it's about time.)
And I've been informed that this The Islands business is quite good. Anybody care to elaborate?
-

New Metallica album.

Well according to Kirk this album is going back to 'Jurrasic Metal' eg. Kill 'Em All style. This sounds good to me.
-
Storm Rider: the comment wasn't directed at you specifically, more at everyone who's called someone on their musical taste in this thread so far. It's a real problem in the music forum - and it's the reason why a lot of the Q.C. forum regulars don't dare venture in here.
-
Belle And Sebastian (are they finally doing a "return to their roots" album? Cause it's about time.)
Album's Leaked, dude.
It's no sinister.
-
Well according to Kirk this album is going back to 'Jurrasic Metal' eg. Kill 'Em All style. This sounds good to me.
Kirk seems to be the member with the least creative control (for example, Lars cutting out all of his solos for St. Anger), so I wouldn't put money on it just yet. However, maybe since St. Anger is their worst selling album, they realized that even their newer fans won't put up with that kind of shit.
In short, I'm skeptical, but I wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised.
-
You are all forgetting the Flaming Lips, they're making a new album
and it's gonna be amazing.
-
Artic Monkeys make me feel ill.

Dear god.
I think Amazon is closer on the dollar than Axl. They're optimistically hoping it'll be released by 2030.
Personally, the top release is automatically Tool, unless they have an "Emotive" moment. Screw pitchfork.
2005 though was not bad for releases at all.
-
Tenacious D movie sometime this year!
And I had another reason 2006 is gonna rock but I forgot it.
-
New albums I'm looking forward to:
Good Clean Fun
Defiance, Ohio
Ghost Mice (two albums)
The Dead Pets
Lifetime (retrospective)
World/Inferno Friendship Society
Two Gallants
Armalite
-
Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully Tomahawk (Mike Patton hasn't announced anything, but Duane has hinted that there will be a new one. That means a tour. YES!)
Indeed.
Also, new Mugison album already out this year, it's totally awesome. It's less Beck and more Tom Waits than his last one.
And isn't there a new Muse album coming out this year?
-

In short, St. Anger was shit. Everyone knows that.
Kirk does probably have very little control over the band but:
1. Producer from Recent albums gone.
2. New bassist more 'old metal' style.
So *shrug* who knows what the new albums gonna be like. I keep hearing about new albums coming out his year and thinking 'cool' but then forgetting them lol.
-
Dion.
As in Celine Dion? FUCK YEAH! I loved Miracle to bits!
Seriously though, all these releases gets overshadowed by one universally important event:
Under Byen - Samme Stof som Stof on March 6!
It's pretty much gonna be the greatest thing since...ever!
-
Symphony X and Iron Maiden are both releasing new albums this year.
-
Cursive, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Built to Spill, and all the other staple indie bands.
But also, Primus. They're returning to their Seas of Cheese style after the Brown Album and Antipop were only loved by true fans. They're also going on their biggest and most extravagent tour yet. As if their others weren't already bitchin'.
-
But also, Primus.
Wait, are you serious? Primus is back together?
-
They got the original line up back together to record a new album and tour it. Les, Ler, and Herb. Should come out in spring.
-
Darren Hanlon is due to go into the studio again this year. Hot-damn. I've heard him perform some of his new material, and I'm looking forward to getting it on record!
-
If that tour doesn't come to me, I'll be ULTRA pissed. I mean, I've already seen them once, but still. I mean, they were the band that sort of drove me towards the music I like now, and I can't pass up seeing them.
-
Sonic Youth started recording, I hope it'll come out this year. I'm praying too for The Stills, Radiohead and Mogwai.
And who can trust Metallica after St. Anger?
-
Mogwai - Mr.Beast
3/7/06
-
The Stills blah blah
Sorry, I didn't catch the rest of that over the noise of my heart speeding up. What else?
-
New Shins? I'm pretty worried, it has to be something great and unexpected.
I read in an interview that James Mercer wants you to shake your booty to their next record.
Duly noted.
-
New Radiohead album. That's good enough for me for 2006.
About bloody time too.
Heck YES.
-
The Stills blah blah
Sorry, I didn't catch the rest of that over the noise of my heart speeding up. What else?
And you know the guy who wrote the songs (the guitar player) left the band, and that they took a permanent keyboardist?
I don't think we'll have anything like Logic Will Break Your Heart.
And is it just me or Muse is due this year too?
-
I totally forgot, new Queensryche album is due out in April. It's not only a sequel to Operation: Mindcrime, but they've got Ronnie James Fucking Dio doing Dr. X. This has renewed my faith in QR after their disappointing last album.
-
Belle And Sebastian (are they finally doing a "return to their roots" album? Cause it's about time.)
Album's Leaked, dude.
It's no sinister.
So they say. They played a lot of the new songs at a show last fall and it's very 70's inspired.
I don't think you'll ever get another sinister style b&s album... they seem to have moved on. Which is fair enough, even if the old fanbase is disappointed.
@Praeserpium
I've only seen one Under Byen show but I wasn't impressed. Maybe listening to an album would change my mind though.

Rock OUT. My brother is going to be so awesomely ultra happy.

Get Det er Mig der Holder Trĉerne Sammen and you will know why I am such a ridiculous fanboy :)
That or maybe you are one of those people who don't dig non-english lyrics.
I personally don't understand that opinion, but since I am Danish I can understand her so maybe I am biased...

Huh. I downloaded this in November. It was terrible.
-
I agree and I adored Room On Fire :(
-
The Strokes suck, the sky is blue, etc.
I'm personally looking forward to Gwen Stefani's next disc. Yeah, I said it.
-
I wasn't aware that the Strokes even counted as indie.
-
Who said they were indie?
-
Mr Beast by Mogwai
I'm resisting the temptation to download the album I'm bloody curious about how it sounds though......
I read about flanger pedals in it and how its better than Loveless according to Alan McGee.
-
And who can trust Metallica after Load?
Fixed it for you.
I have some vague hopes for Metallica... it won't "Ride the lightning" but it couldn't possibly be as bad as St Anger could it?
-
Belle and Sebastian - The Life Pursuit
I have leaked version on my computer but still looking forward to buy original
-
Maybe Metallica will fire that one producer guy who sucks. And then Ressurrect Cliff Burton from the dead.
-
I guess I am probably the minority, but I really can't stand early Metallica.
Granted I don't like metal(nevermind oldschool) generally, but it just strikes me as tedious and ridiculous.
I quite prefer their 90's from the black album and I even liked some of St. Anger.
*Hides away under Harry Potter's invisibility cloak*
-
THems fighting words.
I don't even really like old Metallica all that much. It's alright, but it's nothing wonderful at all.
-
I don't even really like old Metallica all that much. It's alright, but it's nothing wonderful at all.
QFT. On a different forum, I had some gibbering poser say that Master of Puppets was the best Metallica album, and therefore the best metal album ever. I responded by posting a list of albums better than anything Metallica has ever done, ever. And I didn't even have to leave the thrash subgenre.
The point is, the world of metal would have been so much better off if Hammett had just stayed with Exodus. Exodus > Metallica. In fact, I would post my Heirarchy of American Thrash (trademark pending) here, but that would be off topic.
-
Is Tankard American? Because if they are, and they're not at the top of that list, YOU ARE WRONG
-
Nope. German. As is Kreator, actually. And Sodom and Destruction. Germany was the other big thrash scene.
And Tankard cannot touch Testament. Not even with copious amounts of alcohol.
-
Tankard may not quite measure up to them musically, but they'd slay 'em in a bar brawl.
The thing about Tankard is that maybe if they'd fed some of those killer riffs into 'proper' songs they would be as big as Kreator nowadays.
-
Tankard may not quite measure up to them musically, but they'd slay 'em in a bar brawl.
Let's face it, Tankard could probably take anyone in a bar brawl. They're not called 'the Kings of Beer' for nothing. I believe the members toyed with calling their genre 'alcohol metal' for a while.
-
While not a new album, The Residents are doing a serious of podcasts, like a radio drama, those old detective noir story things. so badass.
http://riverofcrime.residents.com/
-
new Destroyer is pretty cool
-
yes Rubies are cool. The Life Pursuit from Belle and Sebastian too.
-
2005 gave us some great stuff. Ghost Reveries, Apologies to the Queen Mary, etc. etc.
If this prediction of 2006 being better is true, then we're in for some awesome music this year.
-
And the new Appleseed rocks my socks.
-
Well, '05 was a pretty great year for music in my opinion. I'm sure '06 will have its share of awesome stuff too. There is good music everywhere at all times if you take the time to find it.
Having said that, hopefully the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV on the Radio albums come out this year. Also Radiohead, for they can do no wrong, it would seem.
-
...You know, aside from being psuedo-experimental tripe. But that's another thread.
Did I mention Tenacious D are doing a movie? Because they are TOTALLY doing a movie.
-
You are all forgetting the Flaming Lips, they're making a new album
and it's gonna be amazing.
Hellllllls yeah.
-
OH and a new Hold Steady album *crosses fingers*
