Because slitting your wrists is a very symbolic act of suicide.

Suicide via wrist slitting one of the slowest ways to die apparently (I think starvation would be even slower but...) I guess it appeals to all the misanthropes who want toprolong the act of dying as possible, hence why it's a popular topic in BM lyrics.

At least thats my view of it anyway.

I waqs going to suggest some of the Manics' early stuff, but I was beaten to it.

Particularly "Yes" from The Holy Bible

Razorblade Salvation is the only one I can think of, and there really isn't many lyrics about cutting in it...plus it's kind of rap...

One major misconception about cutters though, is that they all want to kill themselves (and that they're all emo, but w/e). Take me for example. I am a cutter. I am not trying to kill myself, though my parents think I am. I am also not doing stupid shit like carving band names into my arms like that one guy. A lot of my friends are cutters too, or did it at one time, and they were'nt trying to kill themselves...so why in the hell do most of the song lyrics involving cutting (such as most of the ones posted) involve suicide? I am puzzled.

he's right.  most don't try to kill themselves.  so it kind of is a valid question.

the line i wear around my wrists, are there to prove that i exist

this line's used in a couple Boys Night Out songs on their Trainwreck album.

How about the Hold Steady song "Same Kooks?"

It contains the line, "Making love to the girls with the wrapped up wrists"

May or may not qualify.
