Author Topic: New Dillinger Escape Plan Album!! Who's excited?  (Read 7240 times)

Hey guys,

I'm probably one of the biggest Dillinger fan-boys ever, and I'm getting pretty excited about the new album 'Ire Works' comin out in November.

The album opener Fix Your Face on their MySpace is fuckin devastating. Plus Dimitri's on it, and I always really loved his vocals/larynx-scraping on the old Dillinger albums.

I was wonderin if anyone else shared my passion for extremely technical, jazz-inflected math-core?

Also, while we're on the subject of math-core, did anyone pick up the re-release's of Botch's American Nervoso and We Are The Romans? I did the whole lame fan-boy thing and bought We Are The Romans, although I already had the original.

And can someone tell me where to go from Converge's "You Fail Me". That's the only one I own and I'm pretty undecided as to what to buy next.

Also, NO PLAYER-HATERS!! It'd be nice if we could keep this thread free of bitchin and name-calling, so if your not a fan of these bands, find something better to do than hang shit on them.

Thank you

I am confused by the term "player-hater."  Does liking these bands make someone a player?  And in order to not like these bands, do I have to hate their fans?

I thought I saw some Dillenger video and it just looked and sounded like a NuMetal song/video from the Korn years circa 2003ish.
Don't get me wrong, Calculating Infinity and Irony are great albums, but as I said, from what I heard recently, watered down doesn't even begin to describe it.

And as far as Converge goes, Jane Doe was the first and only Converge album I own.  Not for any negative reasons, but I feel like it serves me best.  So, I guess I'd recommend that one.

Fuck that. This is a monumentally boring band. I saw them live once because they were being supported by Ephel Duath, and I fell asleep, not that I could have appreciated the music anyway, what with the thirty or forty 15 year old idiots wearing bandanas having very long drawn out epileptic fits on the dance floor. I would have been mildly impressed by the sheer number of times the guitarist was able to jump off his amp stack, had he laid down some decent riffs. Also, since this is your first post, and you've used it to make a new thread talking about a bands new album coming out, I call street team.

The video you're probably referring to is either "Unretrofied" or "Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants", most likely "Unretrofied".
This is the worst Dillinger song ever written.
Ben Weinman claims they just wanted to try writing something that wasn't completely insane for once. Personally I think they got sick of getting so little attention in even the mainstream metal scene, so they wrote a pop song to make the tiny bit of money they needed to wash themselves or maybe buy a steak to scrabble over.

Let's remember that this is a band that gets shunned by most metalheads, let alone the greater alternative music community. Plus, its pretty obvious that their long-time drummer left and joined Coheed and Cambria because he was sick of being so poor.

Anyway, Unretrofied sucks, but the rest of that album, Miss Machine, is brutal, proving yet again that you can't judge an album's worth by a shitty single.

And thank you for the Jane Doe recommendations. I'll pick that one up soon.

STREET TEAM.

I am not a member of the Dillinger Street Team, nor will I ever be as such a thing does not exist. I am simply a recent discoverer of Questionable Content's inherent awesomeness, and decided to make my first post to this forum a thread about a particular musical event I am excited about, in the hope that others might also share my excitement and communicate it with me in discussion.

I congratulate you on your ability to waste your own time by talking badly about a band you clearly care nothing for.

Good Job!

I'm not quite as big a fan of these guys as I used to be, but these guys dominate live and I love basically everything they've done. Not quite sure if they'll still be able to pull it off without Pennie, but I'll still buy the album.

The one thing I like about these guys is that unlike most of their clones, they can go completely insane but yet also write a song.

Jane Doe is their best. After that, probably Petitioning The Empty Sky or No Heroes.

Petitioning... is a good record if let down a bit by the parts where you can understand the lyrics. I love Converge but one of the best things about Jane Doe is that not only can you not understand what the hell Bannon's wailing about you can't even read the lyrics in the booklet. No Heroes was pretty terrible though, the best bits sounded like You Fail Me outtakes and were therefore a bit superfluous to requirements and the worst bits were embarrassing. I'd recommend the split with Agoraphobic Nosebleed as the thing to get after Jane Doe, My Great Devastator is one of their best efforts. Plus the AN side is some good stuff as well, very catchy.

As for DEP, they were great. Then they released Miss Machine. If the new one sees them no longer sounding like a crap Nine Inch Nails (who let's face it aren't exactly the world's best band) then maybe I'll be interested again. I'm not exactly holding my breath though, I seriously doubt they'll ever release another good record.

I saw DEP live way back in the day. It was really impressive for about three songs, then everything just sounded the same to me.

Jane Doe is my favorite Converge record, although I really liked "You Fail Me" and "Grim Heart/Black Rose" from their respective albums.

I will post my opinion with an Anal Cunt song title:  "Anyone Who Likes Dillinger Escape Plan Is A Faggot".

Because you see, wearing supertight pants makes you homosexual.  When the junk don't got room to breathe, it shrivels up and falls off.  Making a man into a ball-less wonder.

What, really? 'You Fail Me' is a good song but 'Grim Heart/Black Rose' is by far the worst thing they've ever released. I mean, just look at the title. If that doesn't scream "massive AIDS" then nothing does.

If we've learned anything from Atom and His Package, scenester metal kids aren't the only one in danger of being homosexual.

Man they really did hang shit on you for this Roman.

Stings doesn't it. Makes you feel unwelcome. Hurts to know that no one cares about your silly band.
I bet you're the kind've guy who loves Tool and Mars Volta and gets sad when he realises how unpopular they are.
Also I hope no one else reads this forum because I'm mostly just using it to see how long it takes you to figure out who this is.

PS: I wish Dillinger planned my escape last time you made me listen to them.

Hey so, in other news, internet intrigue.

Also, the not-a-street-teamer posted in this and one other thread and then completely dissapeared.

I fucking love being right.

Hey guess what?

You're not right. Street-teamer is a really weak way of saying "this guys likes a band that I hate"
