Ear Buds

I bought some cheap ear buds awhile back for use at work and one of the bastards quit on me already.
Rather than buying another set of cheap ones ... does anyone have some good recommendations?  I'm looking for durability more than anything.  Sound quality isn't all the important since I just need it loud enough to block out the idiots in the office.

Thanks!

better sound quality = better sound blocking.

I'd look into actual headphones (as opposed to ear buds) if I were you. they block more sound, you'll get better sound quality, and a great many models have built-in white noise sound reduction systems, which means playing external sounds out of phase with themselves so that they cancel out and you get peace.

seeing as you're not using them for gaming, don't bother getting a pair with a microphone.

The only reason I want buds is so I can take one out and talk on the phone in comfort.  I'm using headphones now but I can't listen to music and talk on the phone hehe

I personally prefer the in-ear kind to the other buds, as those ones hurt me ears. I only know that the ones that come with the iPod are utter shit if that's what you were using.

Honestly, most earbuds are fairly crappy, but i would suggest a pair of Sony earbuds with the wraparound frame. You dont have to mess with them to keep them in, and they also dont BLARE your ears out. Studio Headphones ftw though.

Anything anyone says is opinion on this one.  Pay $$$$$ for big sound blocking super headphones and get exactly what you've already said in this thread you don't want.

I would go with sony ear buds (though I HATE the kind with the wrap around.  The wrap around really annoys me and the regular kind stay in my ear just fine.  Maybe it depends on your personal ear?

The sound quality is high in spite of the fact that they only cost about $20.

as for durability, mine have lasted a good long while, but really: get over it.  With headphones, you have two options: really expensive that you take care of a baby like your child but will either break or be made obsolete in 5 years anyway, or disposable.

I consider most to be disposable.  $20 every two years, or even once a year depending, is not too much to pay for decent sound and comfort.

Don't go for the $4 ones because they really do stink.  The only headphones I've ever had just start to suck on me without anything physically breaking are the $4 ones and the free ones that come with ipod.

pay $20 and get medium quality ones.  They're still not going to last forever, but you will get decent quality for a good while, provided you dont step on them, or tug the cord around too much.

grado sr80's are mighty kickass... but they're probably not what you're looking for. Best $100 I've spent for anything music/sound related on my computer. Google them and see; you wont get the convenience you're looking for with ear buds, but you'll get amazing quality at a decent price, especially in comparison to something like sony or sennheiser with the same quality.
