I'm not sure if they fit the hobocore description in the comic but they're quite hobo with their bashtub bass and only playing public places like parking lots.
they sound a lot like that what emerged as anti folk a few years ago. it always reminds me of joie dead blonde girlfriend a bit.

I heard of a band called Street Drum Corps. and I figured that was hobocore. they dress all emo/punk and bang on trash cans and stuff.

I think we could classify some of Tom Waits later albums as hobocore.  Especially Bone Machine--he's got some sweet songs about hoboin' around in there.

Johnny Hobo & the Freight Trains are fucking awesome in every single way. The lyrics are always fantastic, every song includes at least one (usually more) classic line. I've got Johnny Hobo RAW, Caught in the Act of Not Being Awesome, Anarchy Means I Hate You and Easter Sunday Hangover. They haven't got a bad song. The mixture of simple raw folk-music, pissed-off drunken lyrics and even more pissed-off angry vocals cannot be beaten.

I'm ordering their split with Mantits, their split with Ghost Mice and All Power to the Wingnuts as soon as I get any money.
