Goddamnit, now I want to talk about Starcraft

I read that locked thread about getting a key for Starcraft (seriously... why not buy the battlechest with the expansion?  It's like $9.95 CDN... cigarettes aren't as cheap as this game!!)

Oh... the hundreds of hours of my life that I lost to this game online.

I had a profile, years ago, that I was especially proud of.  On battle.net I had managed over 700 wins with less than 10 losses.

And no, I didn't just zerg-rush everyone.  I mixed it up.  I would play, mostly, Protoss or Zerg, but I could usually kick some ass with the Humans.  If I'm not mistaken, my 8 or 9 losses on that one profile were all from Human.  I just never jived with their playstyle as well as I jived with the 'Toss and Zerg.

I really liked the Protoss ability to summon buildings, and then move away to summon another one.

Within the first 3 minutes of every game, I typically had 90% of my area covered with barracks' and such.

Man, it's been so long since I played that I can't remember names of buildings.

I do remember the carriers.  There was very little one could do with a full fleet of carriers and corsairs eating away their base.  Throw in one of those stealth ships, and a few platoons of Dragoons on the ground, and you were a steadily-moving killing machine.

And there is NO rush like the rush you get from stopping a very well executed Zergrush.  I've managed to survive a zergrush that came - literally - 15 seconds after the game started.  This guy just picked a corner of the map, and sent the fastest most effective rush I'd ever seen.  I managed to - with some crafty drone maneuverings as Protoss - lure the rush away from my base while I got an armory up right quick, and put a turret out there.

The turret fully formed just as the rush came back at my base.

I think I woke my roommate at the time with my loud WHAHOOOO!!!

Ahhh... good times.

Man, now I want to install this game again.

Blizzard would be RETARDED to not make Starcraft 2.  Like someone in the other thread said, that is definately a 1billion dollar cheque just waiting to be cashed.

I would actually consider waiting outside a store before it opened for that game.  Something I've never done before.

Damn! Just because of this thread i now want to go out and get starcraft again, as my damn discs are thrashed.

I used to play LAN games with brood war. I was pretty alright, but one of my games was just brilliant. We were on a huge open map with MASSIVE resources (player created) and 4 teams in opposite corners. The VERY FIRST THING I DID as protoss was get a Dark Archon and convert a zerg drone and a Terran SVC.

I shit you not, i had ALL 3 RACES. IN A LAN GAME. Needless to say, they were shocked as hell when THEIR OWN RACE ATTACKED THEM.

Nothing says victory like the frustrated screams of your opponents.

I did that once with Toss.  Converted a Zergling, and went almost pure Zerg.  The only thing I bothered with for Protoss were Carriers.

It must've been freaking hilarious to see all these flying zerg come rushing into a base, supported by a full 2 fleets of carriers.

:P

I never did the Battle.net thing, but I was an avid LAN'er with my brother.  My best race was Zerg, and my playing style just seemed to epitomize the "endless waves" that people always associate with the Zerg.  Heck, most of the time I wouldn't even bother teching up past Hydralisks except to get the Adrenal Glands for my little zerglings.

Protoss > Zerg > Terran (Not humans. JEEZ.)

I didn't play that many proper games, I was all about the custom 'Use map settings' games. Evolves was fucking sweet, as were a few of the 170 MILLION Matrix defence maps. Also, Golem Wars, but it was basically a less cool Evolves. I can't remember any others, disapointingly. Anyone else have favourite custom games?

And yes, I would be ALL OVER Starcraft 2.

Man. I used to come home on lunch break in junior high just to get in a quick game. Fond memories. It's still a great game to go back to once in a while. If SC2 were to be made, they'd have to deal with Duran and the whole new hybrid race they talked about in the missions. Muahaha! Blizzard is slowly adding races to games. WC1 and 2 - 2 races. SC - 3 races. WC3 - 4 races. If SC 2 comes out... 5?

Are my psionic senses telling me that we might be seeing an QC-SC match?

A QC forum SC tournament would be amazing...but we'd all need to use Battle net and it'd be awkward to get enough people all online at once(with the different time zones especially)

Plus I'd get completely slaughtered. I was never as good at starcraft as I was at warcraft. I don't know why, I reckon it was something to do with the lack of melee, I hate defending ranged attacks.

Has anyone else noticed how the storylines for starcraft and Warcraft 3 have some very similar twists/parts. Like Arthas joinging the undead in W3 is not too disimilar to Kerrigan becoming a zerg. Plus the gameplay...I mean the undead aren't a mix of zerg (The crap they have to build on) and protoss (Summoning buildings) AT ALL...

I don't like playing lan or multiplayer Starcraft. People are much better than I, and I don't like being rushed at the game. I think the funnest way to play that game is to build like a huge infrastructure and create huge armies before attacking, and there is no way to do that online.

I like Starcraft as a more chill game.

I am in - for a QC tourney - like sin.

And you will all bow before me... you will topple, one by one, ground into the dust by my Dragoons, Hydralisks and/or siege tanks.

NONE WILL SURVIVE!

Diablo I or II? I played the first when it first came out back in what, 96? I was 10 when that came out. I remember having nightmares about the Butcher coming out of hs room going "aaahhhhh... Fresh meat..." Of course, I played at night with the lights off; that's the only way to play it. Diablo 1 had style[/i] (for lack of a better term) and atmosphere in spades. The gameplay for the time was amazing, and even when I fire it up these days for a quick run in the dungeon, I'm amazed at the difficulty of a game that came out nearly 10 years ago (assuming you don't cheat). I still get scared in the dead of night when I open a door and get rushed by a horde of Vipers.

Diablo II, on the other hand, has it's gameplay at a point where just about any 8 year old can pick it up, play it at 2am and not be scared piss-less; it's got that kind of a feel to it. The game had to get bigger due to expectations, and to accomodate it, Blizz had to make it more accessible to everyone.

Overall, I must say, Diablo II has replayability in the form of mods and the immense landscape, but DI was the better version.

And now I've gone off on a tangent from the original thread.

my rec is about 3k-1.7k-200, I havent played in a couple months, but one thing I know is that people with records like 700-5 are pretty unskilled, because there is no way to improve your game other then playing people at or above your own skill level.(people with those records typically play only 7vs 1 against a computer player)

that said, I am pretty miffed at Blizzard for the lack of attention to the SC realm, enough with the orcs and elves already, I want to fry some zerglings!

but don't add heroes or lots of spells that auto-cast, that would probably ruin gameplay, as it is in warcraft, even on the upper levels, the entire time is spent massing for one major attack, after which there is not really any turning the game around, whereas in starcraft it is balanced(depending on map)so it can go either way at any time.

playing online isnt only about rushing, its about defending and countering, ill bet you wouldnt have nearly as much of a problem online if you scouted with a worker unit to see what your enemy was doing, if they are rushing you should have time to defend, leaving you with an economic advantage, if they are expanding early, you can rush, or expand yourself, multiplayer is really worth it once you get into it.(im not talking about zc/fastest maps, those are all about massing, no strategy)

Has anyone finished warcraft 3 on hard, and seen the extra little snippet of in game movie at the end? For those interested in seeing SC2 (read: pretty much everyone) it might be a ray of hope for its impending release....If they use the WC3 engine.

Also, Ghost looks like it's shaping up to be interesting, and the movies look pretty damned good. Weren't there a few rumour flying 'round the net regarding a Starcraft movie?

that slogan is a good slogan. so good, in fact, I think it should be applied to other things. like, "there's no wrong way to hit your spouse." or "there's no wrong way to commit nonconsentual sodomy."
