Upcoming Releases Thread

Well, there's a recently purchased albums thread, so why not a thread devoted to stuff you're looking forward to thread?

Right now, I'm really excited about the new Built to Spill and Wilderness coming out on the 11th and the new Walkmen album on May 23rd. Three of my favorite bands coming out really close to eachother. Sweet.

I've heard "Louisiana" off of the Walkmen's new album, and although it features a cheerey horn section, it still sounds pretty damn good. I like the fact that they're going for a lighter tone now. I'll miss the organ, but hopefully  they'll bring it back in full force later. So excited.

While not an album, per say, the Residents are releasing a nice little radio noir thing later in the year. FUCK YEAH

Also, SYMPHONY X FTW

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Gnarls Barkley - St Elsewhere.  Danger Mouse doing production with Ceelo Green providing buttery smooth soul vocals.  I think if Marvin Gaye had ever done an album with Parliament as the backing band, it might sound like this.

Except, you know, better, because then that'd be Marvin Gaye and Parliament.

I don't think most of the people here are going to like it though, since it's probablly going to get Top 40 overexposure over the summer.  I kinda hope it inspires some other artists to venture into Soul music a little more though...  which reminds me, I need to get some Blues Brothers albums...

Korpiklaani - Tales Along This Road on the 21st, New Celtic Frost, Carpathian Forest, Enslaved, Tankard, Ministry and ANCIENT RITES in May, and Illnath, Strapping Young Lad, Agalloch, Iron Maiden, Grave Digger, Cruachan, Moonsorrow and Astarte albums out later on.

It's going to be a very good year.

Uhm.. maybe?

Wikipedia says it's a sticky issue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliament_%28band%29

I guess P Funk would be the most accurate.

Yeah, let's just go with P Funk so as not to get confused.  I always thought Parliament was the vocal part of the band, and the Funkadelics were the instrumtal part.

Oh god. Iron Maiden and Symphony X are the ones I know for sure, but the reunited Testament is supposed to be recording soon, as is Megadeth, and Rush is supposedly working on their first album in like... 3 years. Arjen's supposedly working on another Ayreon album too. If half of that second group is true, it's gonna be an awesome year.

Oh yeah, and fucking ATHEIST is back together. Sweet.

Why is it showing me a republican ad on these forums?  This is getting worse and worse.

Hrm.  Things I'm looking forward to?  Nothing really.  Mainly because I don't keep track of music.  Most of it sucks, so why bother?  I'll put down some cash to buy the new Hot Chip album when it comes out, cuz they deserve some money.

I'm probably going to acquire the Angels and Airwaves album, just to see what the shitfuck is going on with those guys.

I'm not so sure about that album.  When I saw them this summer, they played a tune off of that album, and it didn't sound at all interesting.

It's mindcrime II. I know I'll like it. I have decided so. When I have it for a month I'll form an objective opinion. Until that time I will be just very excited and fanboy-ish.

I'm just saying when I saw them play that one tune off the album, I was really turned-off to it.  Maybe it just didn't sound good live, or something.  Plus, RJD on guest vocals is teh sexx0rs.

I'm really looking forward to Dirty Pretty Things album 'Waterloo to Anywhere'.  They are by far the best 'new' band around, Carl Barat is a genius.  It's out May 8th over here in sunny England I think, can't wait.

You're getting a little confused, I think.  Funkadelic were never plural, but Parliament evolved out of doo-wop group The Parliaments.  Members of Funkadelic are properly referred to as the Funkateers.

You're correct, however, in that Funkadelic were the backing band for the Parliaments.

I'm off to see Janis Ian live in two weeks, new album and all.  Also, the new Thea Gilmore album has been confirmed for August and Dave Randall's second album as Slovo will also be out soon.  (PS - check out the link to hear the man who is reputedly Palestine's best rapper.)

I didn't follow the ad, but I believe it's a "Republicans for Voldemort" ad.  You know, Voldemort like the evil dude from Harry Potter.  It's supposed to be a joke.  About Harry Potter.  Because us Indie-Clickers like Harry Potter.  It allows us to be fantastical and ironic at the same time.

Duh.
