I wonder how many people saw the title and, like me, thought DDR SDRAM (memory) instead of DDR the game. D'oh.

Oh and uh, never played it. The true muscles of a geek are in your hands and wrists. Wait wait wait that sounds wrong! I didn't mean it like... aw, crap nevermind, its the truth either way.

I thought RAM when I saw the title too.

Apparently I am a natural at DDR; I pretty much owned everybody that was at the party (a couple dozen people or so) the first time I played, with the exception of my friend who used to play the full-contact version when he lived in Niagara Falls.

I want to try playing full-contact sometime.

Nothing is quite as scary as watching someone dance at a DDR machine, then seeing 20 other people behind hem doing the same moves.  Its quite scary.

I would have thought about RAM if it wasn't for the exclamation mark. (!)
Noone get's that excited about RAM, they just don't.

As for DRR! I have absolutely no ability when it comes to shit like that. I find it hard to switch feet, I'll use my right foot for everything.

that slogan is a good slogan. so good, in fact, I think it should be applied to other things. like, "there's no wrong way to hit your spouse." or "there's no wrong way to commit nonconsentual sodomy."

I play DDR on Heavy/Challenge mode
My favourite song by far is Afronova, but my favourite version of DDR is the original DDR Extreme in Japanese which I downloaded and burned thanks to my ps2 mod chip. tips? you don't always have to go back to the centre... try looking at half beats as sets of 3, that will make them easier to read, and yeah just play a lot and you'll get better!

Yeah, practice a lot. Also try songs that are too hard for you so you can get a feel for the more difficult rhythmic things.

I used to play DDR a lot, like I could do 8-foot songs pretty consistently and a few 9-footers. But I never got a PS2 so my options were kind of limited.

Great fuckin' game though.

Burning Heat, one of the best songs in that entire game, hands down. And practice, practice, practice is the only way to get better at that game. You just have to keep playing the songs, finding the natural rythmes within each of them. Of course, you will look like a total lunatic doing it and it helps to keep a huge smile on your face. DDR is just a fun excursion, though I have seen some crazy shit go down at the arcade I hit. Guy did the MAXX songs, a string of five, and nailed em all. Crazy man

Practice. Practice Practice Practice.

Practice some more.

Then do some more practicing.

Then again, I have an addictive personality.

I went from being able to hardly complete most songs in standard to http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6273805453633734669&q=max+300&pl=true in around 4 months. (video = not me, but the song I practice on. A lot.)

At higher skill levels, you may want to invest in a better pad - One with a bar. Or make your own. It's really crucial to those insane MAX and Paranoia songs.

DDR is truly the activity of the gods.  Those who disagree... will be entitled to an opinion, according to the rules.

Honestly, I'm kinda weird, I play that odd little In The Groove DDR knock-off, it's better exercise (Tell and PA Theme kick arse).

However, in terms of plaain ol' DDR, still amazing.  Extreme is my personal favorite, with a tie between V and Absolute for favorite song.

Oh, and did I already say how much DDR kicks ASS?

BURNING HEAT FTW!! Oh man... here I am, scrolling down, reading replies, going "Oh man... I'm so gonna post about Burning Heat. It's such a rad song." And then you steal it from me! Wah!

Seriously... Burning Heat is the coolest DDR song I've ever heard. I like all the different versions of Break Down! too.

EDIT: Luke! That comic is hilarious! What's it from? I want more!

Hee, I like that comic posted too- it's all too true- DDR is a "fun" way to exercise, because you're not concentrating on the fact that you're sweaty and aren't receiving enough oxygen, you're concentrating on hitting the arrows on time.

I haven't played DDR in awhile- I can manage most songs on standard/trick, and only a few on maniac (1-2-3 stars is a solid song).

Tsugaru and Sakura are probably my favorites. I like the asian-style beats.

PS: DDR became uncool when Guitar Hero came out, hehe... i'm definetely better at Guitar Hero.

mm, so, DDR SUPERNOVA came out very recently.  Personally, I am in love with this game.

The fact that Fall Out Boy, Hillary Duff, and Kelly Clarkson are all on the soundtrack can all be ignored, thanks to 2 very important things:
1. There's lots of tasty J-Pop
2. They brought back Love Shine!

Anyone who hasn't already, GO OUT AND GET THIS GAME.  You will not be displeased.

Goddamnit, that damn Freckles song is stuck in my head again.

P.S. Guitar Hero does indeed kick major arse as well.

I am the princess (holds up tiara) of Love <3 Shine at my arcade! I freak some of the kids out cause 1) they're little, and 2) 1.5 boost flat kind of makes the arrows go zoom... I also love Belly Dance (exotic ethnic), Afronova, Paranoia (Clean mix), and the Eurobeat Nonstop mix.

But ever since they brought back the Dance Maniacs 2 machine (with more than one song by E-Rotic on it), I've been looking like an even worse dork and cold cocking passers by at the same time.. DDR can't give you that.

Yeah, ACrophobic, I went and sold out as well, so now i can't do a song unless it's on 1.5x.  Curses.  Anyway, Drop the Bomb and B4U are both catchy as hell.  And, the whistle song = for yes.  I'm slowly advancing my way into consistent Heavy, so I'm pleased with my performance thus far.

To anyone that has SUPERNOVA: do the VIP card challenges annoy the hell out of any of you as well? especially when they take the arrows and pixellate them or make them birds or bugs and the like... but the worst is this one in... I think it may be Popcorn... ( :[ ) where tehy turn arrow speed up to 8x and make the arrows appear halfway up the screen... it's only one arrow long, but it doesn't come right away, and you have to get a perfect to pass the challenge... ANNOYING AS HELL.
