Single Frame Comics
« on: 29 Mar 2006, 09:53 »

It seems like the trend in comics is toward multiframe story and plot and such. Is there a place for a single frame - one shot joke comic anymore? I don't like plot, it makes my feet itch. Also it seems like with 3 frames of setup, a joke is a breeze ... What is a single frame comic to do?

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal One of three comics that cracks me up almost every time. (Sore Thumbs and Overcompensating being the other two. Sorry Jeph, I love QC more for the story than jokes) It's a great single panel.

And really, The Far Side is brilliant. Up there with Calvin and Hobbes to me.

Toothpaste for Dinner and Natalie Dee are two very excellent single-frame comics that update daily are are funny more times than not. They also collaborated together on Married to the Sea.

That's not really a single-panel strip.

neither is SMBC sometimes, look at the latest one for example
8 of them there

i just figured he meant a non plot-driven one, OC isnt single panel, it is quite consistently 3 panels

i'm sure there are single frame PBFs

I think the consensus is that single-panel comics are alive and well.  When done properly they are teh awesome.  SMBC is one of my favorite comics.  (don't forget Angry Little Girls, btw).

However if you want to develop a more traditional, story-driven comic I can't imagine using only one panel at a time unless you were some sort of super-genius.

PS You need a "first" button on your site.

PPS "I'm edgy" actually made me snort

EDIT: I also like your comic. "Beating a Dead Horse at Checkers" is totally going into my vocabulary now.
