Tonight is the final of the
51st Eurovision Song Contest, Europe's ongoing contribution to bad taste and kitsch. Nothing particularly noteworthy as a rule, and even with a German C&W act this year wouldn't be much different... except for Finland, whose act this year is by far the most popular they've ever had.
Finland entered a death metal band this year.
And they've made it to the final.
So I anticipate KharBevNor and the other Friends of Wuuurrrggghhh! to be out there supporting Lordi and his song "Hard Rock Hallelujah" - particularly since he's survived not only a semi-final to get there but also a hefty pyrotechnics bill (footed by fans) and being injured at a recent gig. But as a spokesman for Sony BMG said, "there was a back-up plan in case Lordi’s leg had been more seriously injured and required a cast – the singer could have performed in an exploding wheelchair, or with flame-throwing crutches."
What a trooper!
