There's this bit in Illuminatus! which is basically just a two and a half-page list of all the made up rock bands coming to attend this mass illuminati sacrifice disguised as a rock festival. They're all puns or references to the book, many of them rocking, and a good few, whether out of chance or tribute, have since become real bands, including Primal Scream, Dead Kennedys, Nirvana, Steppenwolf and the Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu.

There's probably a full-list somewhere, I can't be arsed to type it out, but a lot of them are great, although mainly only appropriate for stoner rock bands. I particularly like Acceptable Radiation, The Horseless Headsmen, The Damned Thing and Maxwell and his Demons, as well of course as The Windows and the The Roofs.

[22:26] Dovey: like, maybe, 4 or 5 times that i know of?
[22:26] Dovey: and at least one of those was a blatant ploy at getting sigquoted

I can`t believe no one`s mentioned the Butthole Surfers yet. Or for that matter Mission of Burma.

I was so happy when I found out the KLF were obsessed with that book.
I think Steppenwolf existed when the book was written. They're a reference to a Herman Hesse novel
