If you subtract the Nazi undertones, Joy Division is a really kick arse name for a band.

Why do you have to subtract the nazi overtones? They're not nazis.

Indeed, Warsaw is also a great name for a band.

I think my fav band names are...

The Stone Roses
A Perfect Circle
The Sex Pistols
The Stooges (It fits their sound so well.)
Gorillaz (Normally I don't like z's instead of s's, but for some reason this works here.)
Adam & the Ants
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (It doesn't describe them at all, and I think that's why I like it.)
Thievery Corporation

I thought it fitted quite well on Take Them On, On Your Own, but I suppose it doesn't fit the new album. Also Take Them On has the most badass bass opening to an album I have ever heard. You should own it just for that,

Acid Hades.

This is not an actual band, but my History teacher used the phrase 'Acid Hades Rock' to describe Cathedral when my friend started playing it on his boombox in class. It is now my mission in life to create a musical project that lives up to that title.

And a worthy mission it is.

BRMC - A great band name, yes. It never ceases to amuse me that in one of their videos they had to drive to a gig or something and they took a car instead of motorbikes.

Pink Floyd - it's catchy, it sticks in the mind, it's unique, and it's very, very Syd.

The most amusing band title I've heard over the last year has to be:
Oh No! Oh My! (http://www.myspace.com/ohnoohmyband">plug)

Thank goodness they changed their old http://www.thejollyrogers.org/">name. It was generic as hell.

I agree with Anal Cunt.  You can get around the whole "Holy Fuck" problem because most people "in the know" call them AxCx (so I'd go into stores in my hometown asking for AC and I'd get handed ACDC. Ugh).

My contributions:

John Cougar Concentration Camp
Frantic Romantic
Fat Girls at the Snack Table
All Girl Summer Fun Band
!!!
Jets to Brazil
Jud Jud
The Pixies
Talking Heads

However i've always been partial to these band names.

Olivia Tremor Control has always been one of my favorites, though really anything from Elephant 6 had a good name.

And I have reason to believe they totally sotle their name From Texas is the Reason, just because I am a cynical ass.

Well, the bad my roommates and I have is called 665.9.... but I hate that name.  I thought The SRO's would be a good name.  It refers to the old signs they'd put on venues that stood for Standing Room Only when it was really packed.  Plus people wouldn't quite know how to say it.  S-R-O's sound like a car or something, but Sroe's sound cool too.

I also thought David Bowie's band Tin Machine had a cool name.  But I also love David Bowie, so I think Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is pretty fucking tight as well.

In high school, my buddies and I toyed with the idea of a band called "Ingrown Toenail".

Seriously, listening to us play was about as painful.

Our local group of metalheads, who actually DID make some money as a band at local functions, came up with a great mock band:

"Flourescent Dead Chihuahuas".

They drew up mock album covers and everything; it was hilarious.

NEMBRIONIC HAMMERDEATH

I've never heard them, or heard of them, I cannot classify them, but I saw the name on some metal site and it is seriously the best band name I have ever seen.

EDIT: They are apparently Dutch death metal.

My ongoing quest to outright win every opinion thread on these forums continues with The Band With No Name.

I'm also fond of The Orb as a band name, I know not why.

Lastly, Runrig.  The best band named after anything to do with agriculture.
