Judas Iscariot - Where the Winter Beats Incessant

JI are one of my most favorite bands.  More Black Metal neeeds to have this sort of atmosphere.Nargaroth are really the only band that comes close to evoking this sort of feeling in me when I listen to the music.  Highly reccomended stuff.

At the moment I'm listening to the Matador At Fifteen compilation. The track currently going is "The Laws Have Changed" by The New Pornographers.

It's a thoroughly satisyfing comp, guys. With the exception of an 11-minute long dirge courtesy of Bardo Pond, it's almost like a superbly-flowing singles comp on the first disc (which, by the way, it is) and a well-compiled mixtape of brilliant b-sides on the second disc (which it is). The accompanying DVD has the video for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's "She Said," making it automatically worth it, and the little booklet of in-house correspondence is an entertaining read (see the correspondence between Gerard Colsoy and Pitchfork Records near the beginning for an example).

EDIT: Now playing is "My Kind Of Soldier" by Guided By Voices, which is one of my favourite GBV songs. Damn do I love this comp.

Death In June - Lullabye to a Ghetto

My oh my, I'm too drunk. This song is so sad. How the fuck can anyone think DI6 are nazis? The persecution of Douglas Pearce alone has turned me completely against the Anti-Fascist Association (The happy folks who apparently decided at one point that Death in June was ambiguous enough that they would 'allow' them to perform live. Fucking bastards! I would fucking kill to see Deathi in june live shut up!).

Fucking twats!

OH MY GOD THERE'S SCREAMING FUCKING PEOPLE IN THE BACKGROUND WHILST PEARCE SINGS "SO THIS IS YOUR LIFE, THIS IS YOUR WORLD, A LULLABYE TO A GHETTO, WHERE YOU MURDER BOYS AND GIRLS" HOW THE FUCK IS THIS PRO-NAZI YOU FUCKING IDIOTS?

Death in June - Rose Clouds of Holocaust.

...my people are idiots.

Sorry, i'm reading some really annoying articles written by some prissy fucking socialist about how evil death in june and whitehouse are. It all boils down to claiming death in junes entire aesthetic is an act to sell more records and a load of bullshit sectarianism and marxist fuckwittery. Man, I am getting to seriously fucking dislike marxists. I mean, lets be fair, its more a religion than a political standpoint (you believe in a socialist utopia and revolution despite the overwhelming evidence), and it's also fucking anti-freedom and just GRRR.

Fuck, this article is so obsessed with left/right politics! There is nothing like people who bleat on about class struggle every nine fucking seconds and then get involved in elitist sectarian pissing matches. Who cares who was a member of what when and what fucking rumours you heard from your reliable sources you idiot. Douglas Pearce is a gay ex-socialist. This wanker basically cannot distinguish any sort of individualistic philosophy from fascism. HOW THE FUCK IS ANARCHISM IN ANY FORM RELATED TO FASCISM GRR.

Oh, It is now  Death in June - Winter Eagle. I have been blathering too much.

Haven't been here in a few days, so I'll post a few of the albums I've been listening to while enjoying my "vacation":

Deftones - Saturday Night Wrist
.  It's not quite White Pony, but I think this may be the second most beautiful thing that Chino & Co. have been responsible for.  It's like the perfect refinement of what the Deftones have always been, plus what Chino did with Team Sleep (JohnnyC, I'd like to hear your opinion on this album, by the way)

ISIS - Panopticon.  Watched the DVD and got in the mood to listen to this band.  I've listened to Oceanic a lot more than I have Panopticon, so I went with the one that hasn't gotten as much love.  I still think I like Oceanic the best out of everything they've done.

Orchid - Gatefold LP.  It's actually the cd version 'cause I'm not cool enough to have gotten into vinyl yet, but whatever.   This is some really good, really gritty and raw punk/hardcore a la Pg. 99 or City Of Caterpillar, but a little less atmospheric.  I busted it out in order to drown out the sounds of my neighbors shitty hip-hop sex soundtrack.

Sage Francis - A Healthy Distrust.  I've been listening to a lot of his older stuff recently, so I figured I'd go back to listening to the cd that got me into his music in the first place.  There are a lot of really good tracks on this one, even for someone who generally doesn't really like hip hop and rap.

and at this very moment, I am indulging my love for all things associated with Level Plane Records by listening to A Day In Black And White - My Heroes Have Always Killed Cowboys.  I guess if you had to genre-fy it, you'd call it post-hardcore - or even more ghastly, "Screamo" - but I also think that fans of Godspeed might enjoy this as well.  The singer has a vocal delivery similar to that of the guy from Ten Grand, and some of the guitar parts remind me a good bit of F#A# (infinity).

Hooray!  Long music post FTW!!!

Iron Maiden - The Longest Day

A Matter of Life and Death might not be their strongest album musically, but damn if it doesn't have some of the best lyrics they've ever written. When I heard it was a concept album, I assumed it would be a unified story like Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, rather than being a bunch of unconnected songs on a specific subject.

In the gloom, the gathering storm abates
In the ships, gimlet eyes await
The call to arms, to hammer at the gates
To blow them wide, throw evil to its fate

All summers long, the drills to build the machine
To turn man from flesh and blood to steel
From paper soldiers to bodies on the beach
From summer sands to Armageddon's reach

Overlord, your master not your god
The enemy coast dawning grey with scud
These wretched souls, puking shaking fear
To take a bullet for those who sent them here

The world's alight, the cliffs erupt in flame
No escape, remorseless shrapnel rains
Drowning men, no chance for a warrior's fate
A choking death
ENTER HELL'S GATE

So good.

Gordian Knot - Muttersprache

My parents got me both Gordian Knot full-lengths for Christmas. Which is great, because I think they'll be good for driving music, but finding them in ordinary stores is impossible.

Ataxia - Dust

John Frusciante (RHCP) on guitar, Joe Lally (Fugazi) on bass & Josh Klinghoffer on drums.

I can only imagine the epic badassery that these three produce together.

It's not as badass as I expected it to be, but it's still great.
