I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I've finally gotten around to listening to Agalloch just recently...very, VERY glad I did though, they're incredible.

In my car earlier, I was listening to The Hope Conspiracy - Death Knows Your Name:  excellent, raw, brutal, pissed-as-hell hardcore...now, I'm listening to Ignite - A Place Called Home.  Just saw them a few days ago and got in the mood to listen to them more often.

We recorded this in my bedroom yesterday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXe6Skh8bi8
It sounded great when the girl was singing it, but I dunno, on this recording some of the notes sound a bit rough. I blame the microphone on the camera

Listening to dEUS - Via

Got into this band when I was staying in a hostel in Belgium - someone suggested some local music and I gave this band a go.  I don't love all of it, but some songs have stuck through the years.  This song seemed somehow better for, rather than diminished by, the blatant referencing of REM's Low.

Oops, now listening to Atom™'s fucking excellent remix of Emiliana Torrini's Sunny Road.  Classic indie "folk" dullness made awesome by making it sound like an audio stream suffering from drop outs and buffering artefacts in perfect time with the song.  The mix of explicitly digital madness with the acoustic guitar and beatless arrangement is just awesome.

Oops, sorry, I forgot we're not supposed to discuss things... ;)

A new song by Cradle Of Filth. I still love this band. Musically they're very appealing and I find Dani's lyrics and their whole tongue-cheek attitude very refreshing compared to all those bands that take their music sooooo seriously and in their pretention actually forget to write a decent song.

But that may just be me.

Anyway, check it out.

Right now, I'm listening to Julie Christmas from Made Out Of Babies/Battle Of Mice screaming like she's being torn apart by wolves (the song is called At The Base Of The Giant's Throat, by BoM).  This band has pretty much replaced The Paper Chase as the band most likely to make me want to curl up in the fetal position and wimper...

This is quite possibly one of the catchiest pop-punk songs ever written.  Right up there with "I Wanna Be a Homosexual".

I listened to that song everyday coming home on the bus last year. I even started drawing a comic to illustrate the lyrics because it was so fun- sadly I stopped drawing the comic after five panels and lost the paper over the summer. but yeah, blood on the register, the grill and on the floor... I love it!

song on right now: Kerosene 454 - In for Even. Found the "At Zero" album for five bucks in the clearance bin. Sweeeet.

Spectre - Mad Frank Lends A Hand

Mid-90s digi-dub from UK producer Nick Manasseh.  Awesome album, strange blends of sounds... this track heaps of hand percussion and an echoing sax alternately crooning and squealing in the background.  And no bassline!  How the hell can you have reggae with no bassline??  It's cool.

I think you should check out the earlier works of Runrig, if you haven't already. They started out as a ceilidh band on the Isle of Skye in the '70s and have been going pretty strong ever since. You should check out anything that still has Donnie Munro as the vocalist, the new guy just doesn't compare.

I am listening to the Ditty Bops self-titled. This is some of the funnest music I have ever heard. It is kind of like Jodie Phillis found a treasure chest full of fun, cloned herself and decided to kick out the jams

There are a few generically bland folk-pop songs in there, but there is certainly nothing I would describe as "mediocre", and they are easily outweighed by superp pieces of music like "Ooh La La". The opening guitar riff for that song is freaking SUPERB. Plus, all the vocal lines, even in the one or two songs I am not overly impressed by, are so insanely beautiful sounding that it is hard to stay mad at them. Wait, I wasn't even mad! I was grinning and tapping my feet!

The name does not betray the sheer level of ditty bopping I am doing while listening to their music.

If you are a country western fan of any stripe, you owe it to yourself to listen to Don Walser.  He played and sang in the tradition of old-fashioned shitkickin', dirt raisin', 80 proof ear scorching steel guitar cowboy music.  HHe yodels.  He opened for Buddy Holly before Buddy Holly left Texas.  He didn't release his first album until 1994 when he retired from the national guard at age 60.  He was from Austin, which gave him an unusual following of country music fans, alternative music fans, and punk fans.  He was a funny guy too.

He passed away at the age of 72 last week, from complications of diabetes.

Next I'm gonna listen too Lyle Lovett's If I Had a Boat which is a bit of an anthem to me.
