Into Eternity - Out

I got their new album a few days ago from Amazon. It's very good, but I think I like Buried in Oblivion a bit better. The leads are a little less wanky, but the riffing isn't as strong. As far as the new lineup goes: the drumming is better, and their new vocalist still does the alternating clean/death vocal style as the last one, but he does the melodic clean singing a little better so it seems like they took the songwriting more in that direction. The guy has better range too; he hits almost Halford-level notes sometimes.

But overall, definitely worth picking up.

Those comps were so exciting at the time, really inspiring shit.? I went back and listened to the first one recently, still got some really good moments.? Kinda looks at dub as a virus / meme rather than as a sound...?? The Bedouin Ascent track is amazing, I reckon.? He was a weird one - writing UK techno stuff in polyrhythmic patterns and non-standard time signatures...? Something fairly confounding about making that kind of music with analogue synths and drum machines.? And that Tricky track is cool - hilarious approch to a remix, must've taken him all of 10 minutes.. that's Alison Goldfrapp on vox, by the way... I was so shocked when she went all electro-clash after doing these beautiful semi-ambient tracks with people like Tricky, Orbital and Plaid.
I love Vol. 2 of that series, too.? As far as Goldfrapp goes, I enjoyed her first, trip-hoppier album more than the subsequent dancier stuff.

Now playing: NEU! "Hallogallo." In which our heros, Michael and Klaus, play post-punk, forgetting that the invention of punk should be a prerequisite thereof.

For I am a poor and a wretched boy, I am a chimbley sweep!

I was writing an essay on Blake for uni and I accidently used that line and was annoyed at myself for quoting the Decemberists and then realized that i was quoting them quoting the poem i was writing about (The Chimney Sweep)

Which proves that we're both English majors

Yeah, the Batman soundtrack is pretty awful, but I think the opener, The Future is pretty decent.

Listening to Mapstation again.  There's an MP3 here that is pretty indicative.  So quiet and static.  Sounds quite bizarre when you mix this beatless arpeggiating with reggae vocalists, as he's done from time to time.  The best tracks have a little more going on, often some thumb piano or a bit of Schneider high (and therefore melodic sounding) bass guitar lines.

Boyd Rice & Giddle Partridge - Bonnie and Clyde

I am literally addicted to this song.

http://www.myspace.com/riceandpartridge

Brilliant.
It's not bad, but the thing I find weird about this was that they've clearly just sampled and looped the bits of the original music they needed and then re-done the vocal on top.  I think on Warm Leatherette they've remade the music, but it's reeeeeeeeeeeeeally faithful.

It is interesting to find out what the hell Bonnie and Clyde's lyrics mean in English... although I wonder how faithful the lyrics are to the French?  Do you know if any eager World Serpent afficionados have looked into it?

The first time I heard the Bonnie and Clyde music was as sampled by MC Solaar.  Then there was a really faithful (you could say, redundant) cover with Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab doing the Brigitte's part... from memory it's on their second album, but it was a "hidden track" (meh).  Anyway, I heard the Luna cover before I heard the Gainsbourg & Bardot version, so I originally thought Luna and Stereolab had decided to make a French pop song from a French hip-hop track.  :oops:  Very confused.  Fascinating, I know.   :-P

Heh, listening to Jupiter right now. If you've ever seen the film "The Right Stuff," you'll understand why it's my absolute favourite film of all time. First off, it's just a brilliant film to begin with. Second, it's got chunks of The Planets running rampant around the soundtrack.

Edit: Crap, now I want to go launch something into space just listening to Jupiter.

I've never heard the original (Actually, I had no idea it was a cover), but I presume they were quite faithful to the french, as it's basically a poem by Bonnie Parker that's been translated into French and they have then translated back into English, and probably edited a bit along the way:

The Trails End, by Bonnie Parker

You've read the story of Jesse James
of how he lived and died.
If you're still in need;
of something to read,
here's the story of Bonnie and Clyde.

Now Bonnie and Clyde are the Barrow gang
I'm sure you all have read.
how they rob and steal;
and those who squeal,
are usually found dying or dead.

There's lots of untruths to these write-ups;
they're not as ruthless as that.
their nature is raw;
they hate all the law,
the stool pidgeons, spotters and rats.

They call them cold-blooded killers
they say they are heartless and mean.
But I say this with pride
that I once knew Clyde,
when he was honest and upright and clean.

But the law fooled around;
kept taking him down,
and locking him up in a cell.
Till he said to me;
"I'll never be free,
so I'll meet a few of them in hell"

The road was so dimly lighted
there were no highway signs to guide.
But they made up their minds;
if all roads were blind,
they wouldn't give up till they died.

The road gets dimmer and dimmer
sometimes you can hardly see.
But it's fight man to man
and do all you can,
for they know they can never be free.

From heart-break some people have suffered
from weariness some people have died.
But take it all in all;
our troubles are small,
till we get like Bonnie and Clyde.

If a policeman is killed in Dallas
and they have no clue or guide.
If they can't find a fiend,
they just wipe their slate clean
and hang it on Bonnie and Clyde.

There's two crimes committed in America
not accredited to the Barrow mob.
They had no hand;
in the kidnap demand,
nor the Kansas City Depot job.

A newsboy once said to his buddy;
"I wish old Clyde would get jumped.
In these awfull hard times;
we'd make a few dimes,
if five or six cops would get bumped"

The police haven't got the report yet
but Clyde called me up today.
He said,"Don't start any fights;
we aren't working nights,
we're joining the NRA."

From Irving to West Dallas viaduct
is known as the Great Divide.
Where the women are kin;
and the men are men,
and they won't "stool" on Bonnie and Clyde.

If they try to act like citizens
and rent them a nice little flat.
About the third night;
they're invited to fight,
by a sub-gun's rat-tat-tat.

They don't think they're too smart or desperate
they know that the law always wins.
They've been shot at before;
but they do not ignore,
that death is the wages of sin.

Some day they'll go down together
they'll bury them side by side.
To few it'll be grief,
to the law a relief
but it's death for Bonnie and Clyde.

Is that where that guitar?s from?  Renegade Soundwave samples it, too on the track ?Renegade Soundwave??frankly, that guitar was my favorite part of that whole album.

Boyd?s cover is pretty sweet.  I knew he always had a soft spot for classic pop, but I never expected to hear him actually performing it.  Thanks for the heads-up, Khar.

I'm pretty sure 'Spell', Boyd's project with Rose McDowell, was mainly pop covers as well. Not sure though as I've never been able to find the bloody thing anywhere when I've thought about looking at it.

This is a new track that I'm guessing will be featured on the sophomore records from Blackfield. It's very forlorn, meloncholy, but in a Steve Wilson way of course. Sounds good, but I'm sure it will sound better on CD after it's been mastered and such than the version I'm hearing now, which is from a bootleg. Fun though.

Yay Steve. Queen of England.

Nargaroth - Piseo Pro Satana

My Favorite of the Nargaroth cover songs, originally by Root, this song is catchy as fuck.  It's the same riff as in the Burzum song "War" and another Bathory song, can't recall the name, guranteed to induce instant headbanging.

Mew - The Zookeeper's Boy

Is anyone familiar with the band Mew from Denmark? I really enjoy their music ever since one of my friends sent me an mp3 of their song "Why Are You Looking Grave?". Very cool, mellow mood band. :)

The Mars Volta "Day of the Baphomets". "Amputechture" has really grown on me. At first, I didn't get it but after listening a couple of times... you know the story. I seem to be the only one who thinks it is their best work yet.

I love the drum solo in that track.

It's a good record, Just doesn't have the same flow to it that Deloused does. I think the last track really lets it down.

Tetragrammaton is a kick arse song. One of the best they've done
