Dillenger Escape Plan - Miss MAchine.  This gets a lot of hate for some reason, mostly because of the more industrial-sounding elements they incorporated in the mix, but I really like it.  I hate the cover art a lot though.

Sage is awesome.  He's one of the few rappers out there that I am really into.  I can't wait for his new cd next year.
"Specialist/Hopeless" off the Personal Journals is probably my favorite part of that album...

"Hoppipolla" - Sigur Ros

Still an all-time favourite. I cry every time I watch the video because it reminds me so much of my grandpa who died last summer, and also of the grandpa who is here at my dad and stepmom's house who I might not ever see alive again after I go back to Albania.

Don't regard this as attention whoring, I'm just saying this song is awesome 'cause it reminds me of stuff and it's not even in a language I fully understand.

The Hope Conspiracy - Death Knows Your Name.  If it weren't for the new Converge, this would be the angriest sounding album I heard in '06.

Elliott Smith - Alphabet Town

One of the most under-rated jems off of his self-titled album. Its got great, unobnoxious harmonica which makes it about 10 times better, too.

Picked up a couple good items last night; replaced my copy of "A Day Of Nights" by Battle Of Mice, so earlier I was listening to that, and also I got my hands on a copy of "061502," the DVD of Botch's final show...since I didn't get to see them personally, I guess this is the next best thing.

i recently aquiered recordings of 5 do make say think concerts and holly hell! dmst has always been one of my favorite bands. i love 'em. but live, even though i just heard fairly high quality recordings, they blew me completly out of the water. i never knew they were this good. everything, especially the drums, the saxaphone, and the horn are far more pronounced live and there's some definite improvisation going on as well. the music takes on a whole new level of intensity. there's now incredibly dramatic and intense crescendos and peaks, much more so than on any of their albums. much like when i saw the wrens live and was stunned by how they were far better live than on an album (even though i love their work), dmst floored me. i am now extremly excited to actually see them live in march and listening to these recordings have propelled them to a high spot on my list of favorite bands. for anyone who's a fan of the genre and has not heard these guys live, do yourself a favor and download some of their concerts.

The Clan Destined - Swinging Like Judas

"They teach of peace and love,
Yet stoke the sulphurous pyres of war.
Pray kiss this seal and glove,
that stroke drug-money, gun and whore.
Pious liars have all deceived us;
Bled the beggars - fed the choosers.
Our prayers shall have been heeded,
whence ye sinners swing like Judas!

SWING!"

So upset this band only came to one demo recording.

I just discovered that with the Botch DVD I mentioned earlier, not only do I get the DVD video of their last show, but also a cd of just the audio as well, so I can take it on the road with me.  I'm pretty psyched about that!

On that note, I am currently listening to the live version of their cover of "Rock Lobster" and it is glorious.

Hardly anyone remembers the original Anal Cunt recordings. The ones with no song titles.

Or, indeed, songs.

Sage Francis - Road Tested 2003-2005.  I guess it's a live album, or a compilation of live tracks he recorded from a couple different tours.  It's mostly stuff from Personal Journals, but some of the songs from Healthy Distrust make an appearance.  I'm not sure if this is just a bootleg, or an official release, but it's really good.

Jesu's new album (it got leaked about a week ago.) It is awesome! It's not very metal, it's more like a heavy, blissed out shoegaze album with lots of synths. I would liken it to M83 remixing Loveless, or something along those lines. You should all download it.

If all goes well, I should be seeing Jesu with Isis in March...I'm looking forward to it.  Right now, I'm listening to William Elliot Whitmore's "Hymns For The Hopeless" cd...I don't really know what to call it to be correct, but to me it sounds like it's got this sad, old, Delta Blues thing going on.  I really like it a lot.

Arsis - The Face of My Innocence

One of the best things about this song is the ending. I love how it seems like it just is going to fade out gradually but then they kick back into one last scream and riff before cutting off abruptly. Awesome.

Converge - "Grim Heart/Black Rose" from the new cd.  I'm just a few listens away from saying this is the best song they've ever written.  It's a bit of a departure from usual form for them, as it features actual sung vocals (sung by Jonah Jenkins of Only Living Witness/Milltown, who has one of the best voices I've heard in a while) but it's just So. Damn. Good.  I really think they might have topped, or at least equalled, Jane Doe.
