Random Spirit Lover - Sunset Rubdown

Very dense and haunting but The Mending of The Gown, Up on Your Leopard, Upon Your Feral Days and  The Taming of the Hands that Came Back to Life break the album's mold and are pretty hyper and epic. Fragments of the songs lyrics are stuck in my head.

I just got Iron & Wine's Our Endless Numbered Days, and I am just flipping over Sam's voice!  I had no idea it was this clear and pure...amazing.  I finished the album and then just started playing it again, and I don't really do that often.  I feel a need to get The Shepherd's Dog now...also I hear that The Creek Drank The Cradle is more akin to Numbered Days, except less polished.  anybody have any helpful comments to add?
Thanks

Get the new one. Far and above the best. :)

Devin Townsend - Earth Day

I can never quite make up my mind whether his utter lack of lyrical finesse fascinates me or irks me. And yet the songs still kick ass.

KT Tunstall- If Only

That's some good folk pop. I personally can't listen to stand her more popular singles ("Black Horse and the Cherry Tree", "Suddenly I See", etc) as they've been overplayed, but I found myself humming along to this one. I agree with Entertainment Weekly, she's the "lass to know."

PS: She gets bonus points for admitting that she looks like a "cat's arse" when she poses (or purses) for pictures, babbling about beer, cussing in interviews, and overall just being Scottish.

Lawrence Arms - Brickwall Views

I think the only songs they played off Apathy And Exhaustion when I saw them were this one and Navigating the Windward Passage.

Motivation Proclamation- Good Charlotte

I think we've established that I love harmony.  I was a little obsessed with the first Good Charlotte album when I got it.

And that song ended, soooo

Falling Into History- Avril Lavigne

I think we've also established that I love ballads.  I just found out Avril didn't write this one, or another one of my favorite leaked tracks.  Probably explains why the lyrics are better than most of the rest. =X

I've been listening to Low and nothing else since Sunday. I think I might stop pretending to like other bands.

I've been doing the same.  Things We Lost In The Fire is a brilliant album.

Forsaken by Dream Theater. Probably the greatest band I've ever heard. Mike Portnoy live was nearly a religious experiance for me. I've never seen anyone do what he did and make it look that easy. I was humbled and vowed to get that good someday.

fuckin' A right. I also can't get enough of 'Amazing Grace' from Trust. Current favourite albums are the first one and Great Destroyer but they switch places depending on mood, no sense trying to rank 'em really.

Currently indeed listening to Great Destroyer, 'Silver Rider' to be specific.

Shutup I Am Dreaming of Places Where Lovers Have Wings is my favourite song, for reals. You should also listen to their EP as well. Section 9 is really cool.
I'm listening to Shoulders & Arms by Tokyo Police Club it is very energetic as is almost everything they do.

It's a really good song in a brilliant post-pink floyd album

it still has some pink tendencies but i think Mr Gilmour has done well as a soloist

lord knows there'll be no floyd comeback!!

I Have the Moon by The Magnetic Fields

I have been listening to the Fields non stop for the past few days in celebration of the upcoming tour+album. Pretty much basic Magnetic Fields' music here: quirky electronic pop with romantic lyrics. I'm gonna try and get to the Seattle show if I can.

It's about boredom, nihilism and killing women. So basically like all their other songs, but with the added bonus of them doing it in my home town.

Disc four of James Brown's Star Time box-set. The weakest disc in the set, but still some really solid stuff. Sweet-ass funk music, with James's influence on hip-hop showing up late in the disc, ending with "Unity."

I'm currently listening to Fair to Midland, I saw a picture of them in a poster magazine, they were all Southern looking, dressed in waders and the singer was holding a banjo with a do rag attached, I figured I'd look them up just for that. I was expecting they'd probably be shit though, when I found what they sound like, wow, that's all I've got to say. Can't stop listening to them.

I just found Project 2612 and downloaded a ton of soundtracks from there.

Right now I've been listening to the Dynamite Headdy Soundtrack and Columns III soundtrack. The latter I got mainly because a hack of Sonic 1 featured some cool songs in it. And Dynamite Headdy just completely rocks, as a game, as a soundtrack.

I've been totally abusing the looping feature on these soundtracks and have it go indefinitely, which can be as much as an hour and a half if I'm not paying too much attention.

I'm listening to We Will Not Be Lovers by The Waterboys. Fisherman's Blues is a pretty friggin awesome album. After the Decemberists concerts got cancelled, I thought "OK, I guess I'll go see The Waterboys instead" because they were playing on one of the nights. Turns out, they were playing at Webster Hall, which I'm not old enough to get into.

Argharghargharghargh. That was an awful night.

But uh yay. Mike Scott rocks so hard.

Currently listening to a dark ambient artist called Deaf Center, and the albums I'm spinning are "Pale Ravine" and the "Neon City" ep.

Here's a description of the band....

Quote
After the critical acclaim of their Neon City EP, Pale Ravine is the long awaited full-length realization of Erik Skodvin and Otto Totlands musical ideals. Taking up where Neon City left off with its epic sound collages and textural soundscapes, Pale Ravine manages to provide a sound altogether more Lynchian and grimly cinematic. Using influences from further back in their lives, the two Norwegian musicians have looked deep into their own family histories to piece together a dusty and nostalgic epic.

Inspired by old silent 8mm film reels, the historical architecture around them and the call of the alluring Norwegian landscape, the duo set out armed with microphones to record whatever they could to capture these feelings. Sounds from battered old records, cash registers, broken machines and a half-dead piano were all blended into the mix to add a warm, homely depth to the recordings. These sounds are most evident in the track Loft, where knocks and wooden creaks give an almost claustrophobic feel to the music. Again on The Clearing a subtle field recording gives the track a rich and involving background and helps build up the mysterious aura before launching a skewed 1930s circus-waltz.

One of the most stand-out influences on Pale Ravine is theatre, or at least the romance of all things theatrical. Not so much theatre in all its pretentious excesses, but the childhood apprehensiveness and the sinister undercurrents. From the muffled ticket booth ambience of Lobby to the solemn dance of White Lake it all appears draped in thick billowing velvet. The dense narrative technique the duo employs is almost like a reverse to a silent film the soundtrack is provided to be accompanied by the imaginative visuals of the listener.

Pale Ravine is an album which again manages to blend elements of classical music with electronic music, yet there is something decidedly different which sets it apart from the competition. While there are elements that can be compared with contemporaries such as Max Richter, Marsen Jules or Ryan Teague Deaf Center is altogether more other-worldly, darker and ultimately very rewarding.

Good stuff.
