They're alright, I guess. It sort of turns me off how American teenagers who think that they have an individual taste in music take up with them, and buy Rammstein merch at Hot Topic.

I quite like them. I wouldn't sit and listen to a full album but the odd track I have on my MP3 I listen mainly when it comes on on shuffle.

I'm not terribly big on Rammstein - only industrial metal-type band I really listen to is Ministry - but I think it deserves mentioning that their name was originally "Orgasm Death Gimmicks".

They are almost unbelievably fun live. Sheer, audacious showmanship. Their music is ok, especially Mutter, which was the first CD I ever bought not duplicated in my parents record or cassette collections, but it's really just a re-hash of Oomph!* and Laibach. I've got bored of it now. But the stage show! Fuck yes! Rammstein supported by Apocalyptica is still one of the all time best live events, let alone gigs, I have ever seen. Flamethrowers, explosions, sodomy, leashes, rubber dinghies, stormtrooper helmets, meat cleavers and fuck knows what else. Perfect leather club music.





*Though they're better than Oomph! to my mind.

I saw them live a few months back on their "Masterbatour"; easily one of the greatest shows i've ever been in. Two things happened which made it great:
1. Al Jorgenson blew me a kiss. A really gross, full tongue kiss.

2. I broke my jaw.

Their music and their shows are two completely different things.

If you listen to Rammstein, you get some decent music. Not orgasmically good, not mind numbingly bad.

On the other hand, if you see them live, you get to see Till Lindeman sing... WHILE HE'S ON FIRE!

The best bits was when he was chasing the keyboard player round the stage with a flamethrower whilst the keyboard player was wearing a vest covered in pyrotechnics, and during Seemann when the guitarist suddenly took down his trousers to reveal a pair of speedos and then rowed around the moshpit on an inflatable rubber dinghy produced by the roadies.

I'm not a tremendous fan but I would like to go see them live if I got the chance because they look like they put on a good show.

I know a guy who is a massive fan of them. So much so, he has almost learnt German solely by listening to their lyrics.

I did that. Same way I learnt Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian from metal. That's why I can say 'MY SWORD THIRSTS FOR CHRISTIAN BLOOD' in Swedish but can't ask directions to the post office.

Yeah, from what I've seen on DVD (no live shows unfortunately), Rammstein are amusing on CD and awesome live.

I do sound design for theatre, and I can't tell you how many times I've seen a director ask for some "scary, heavy metal," and the designer comes back with "Du Hast."  Seriously, I've heard that song in like 15 crappy student productions.  I guess people just hear the growly German intro, and decide not to look any further.

Great as they may be live I have to say that some of their tracks are sheer fucking brilliant. Amazing lyrically, pretty good musically.

And you have to respect a band who just do whatever the hell they want.

Du Hast is probably one of the most popular songs for Anime Music Videos ever, along with Dragula. Hell, I've even made an AMV with Dragula.

My older sister has seen them live. They were cooking people alive with flamethrowers. And the guy who plays keybord in the band is scared of stagediving becouse of an incident when he jumped into the crowd and fell straight to the ground. After that he only stagedives in a rubberboat

Rammstein is fun, while I was living in Germany (funny enough near Ramstein Village) they played a live show, but the tickets sold out so damned fast I never even had a chance to get a pair.

They were the first non english speaking band I ever listened to so I guess in a way one of the reasons I got into European music alot more (that and living in Germany for two years gave me a chance :P)

I did finally learn that Du Haust isn't just "You hate me" over and over again, sort of a play on words, You hate or You have (I think it is have) which gave the song a bit more depth for me.

Or, you know, for non-WoW nerds, it makes some good stuff to shoot terrorists or counter-terrorists in the head to.

Or for non-Counterstrike nerds, it's really good music for any form of competitive gaming.

It's a pun on the German wedding vow. 'Du Hast' means 'You have' and 'Du Hasst' means 'You hate'. They sound the same. The english version translates it as 'You hate', which makes more sense but loses the point rather.

Sometimes at parties my friends and I would put on a Rammstein song and then we’d all rock out in the living room and yell out words which don’t make any sense to us. Things got pretty violent sometimes and I think this is what lead to the demise of the ceiling fan.
