Windows XP Professional. My laptop came with Home Edition, so I wiped it and installed Professional.

I run 'em all.  Windows XP pro and Fedora Core 4 on my PC, MacOS on various macs, ranging from the original to a PM 6400, and solaris on my Sparc 5.

Why yes, I am a geek.

BTW...  I voted linux, just because I felt like it... I use them all pretty much equally.

If you're going to break off OS X as a varient of Unix, you should probably break off Solaris, HP-UX, BSD, and others.  Though I guess it's different enough

Anyway, Mac OS X is my primary system, running on my Powerbook, and I have a Compaq running Ubuntu.  As soon as I get a MacPro I'm going to install a second hard drive and run both OS X and XP.

XP on one, 2000 on the other. I'm limited on resources (money & time) so I don't really have a say in the matter.

XP on my workstation and laptop, 2000 at work (not by choice), a variety of Linux distros for firewalls/servers, and a few Windows 2003 servers.

Dual booting OSX systems (10.4/10.5 prerelease). In the past I've attempted to run such combinations as OSX/BeOS, OSX/Ubuntu, and OSX/YellowDog.

Right now I'm running xp professional edition on my main computer.  However I have two towers that I would like to get running soon (still need a few parts) and I'll probably try out different operating systems on them.

All of the options presented...

But, I have, booted NetBSD on one of my macs.  It's not currently installed, however.

So, yea.  You know what I mean.

You can get Live CDs which enable you to run Linux directly from the disc, without it ever having to touch the hard drive (though you can install it later if you decide to).

Ubuntu is available

I was like you until first year uni.

Now I use Windows for gaming, and that's it. Linux is just so much better at everything else I do.

Im happy with XP tbh. The problems I have with my PC these days are the state of my hardware not the OS.

Windows XP with the litestep shell - which I highly recommend.   www.litestep.net  One day I will climb up that learning curve for linux the way things seem to be going with OS's.  I also don't know if my laptop's special feaures would be compatible.

I'm tempted to run it on my laptop, since it seems to have much nicer wireless support, but I won't get the nice Glass effects.  Stupid old shitty ATI mobility.  And I refuse to upgrade my workstation, because I need a stable workstation.

Desktop: Windows XP Professional
TabletPC: Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
Server 1: Ubuntu 6.06
Server 2: Windows XP (usese media connect)
Server 3: FreeNAS (based off FreeBSD)
Router: m0n0wall (based off FreeBSD)

And yes I use XP Pro for it's actual "Pro" features, like domain joining, remote desktop, group policy, etc.

Unlike some people, I actually have a reason instead of "XP Home must suck so i use Pro!"
