What bands have you checked out simply because you saw a mention of them either in the comic, or in one of Jeph's newsposts?  Did you like them or not?

I'm listening to McClusky right now myself, which is kind of a QC recommendation...I've heard of them through different music mags here and there, but just recently decided to listen to them based on something I read here...they're alright, but it's not really anything mindblowing so far.

I'm not saying that I don't dig 'em or anything, it's just not really anything that makes my jaw drop.  I enjoy it...which is pretty much all that you really need when it comes to music anyway.

Mogwai. Sort of. I read their name in the comic lots of times because of the poster (I think?) and then got Mr. Beast to review, and it was pretty good.

Fiery Furnaces.
They’re not really one of my favorite bands but I listened to them because they were mentioned in a comic.

I probably owe most of my music collection to Jeph and the people on this forum.

Well, except my grunge.

I'm listening to Isis right now actually...anyway, did you like any of those bands?  Cause if so you might want to check out Rosetta...they're this band from the Philly area that's really good, if you liked Isis you'd probably really enjoy them...

Indirectly, I can credit about 90% of my music collection to QC, since it originally got me into the whoe indie thing

Out of my favorite bands, Mogwai, Broken Social Scene, Sufjan Stevens, and Aloha are straight from references in the comic or from the recommended listening page

Originally I got into Ellen Allien and McLusky because of QC; big fans of both.  I think there were a couple other bands I knew about but finally cracked and decided to check out because they were recommended (Mogwai and Ratatat come to mind).
Others bands I was glad to see show up on the RL lists; Pelican, Isis, Mastodon, Opeth...some good metal.

I really really need to break down and listen to Opeth...I have no idea why I've avoided doing so for as long as I have...anyone want to tell me which album I should start with?  I have a friend who swears by Blackwater Park as being the greatest album ever...

Blackwater Park is probably their best album, but not the best album ever by a long shot.

Of course it isn't the best album ever...that honor belongs to Converge's Jane Doe.

/my pick
//probably at least 1000 other picks on this forum
///best slashies ever!

If you are going to pick up Blackwater Park, I suggest you lay a few extra smackeroos on the Special Edition if you can find or order it. It has two of Opeth's best songs contained on it! ("Still Day Beneath The Sun" and "Patterns In The Ivy II".)

I practically bowed down and fucking worshipped Blackwater Park two years back. It's since faded in lustre, though seeing Opeth play The Leper Affinity live revived my interest in it very much. Damn, that was incredible. Just because I knew the song so well, you know? It's like how I cried the first time I saw In Flames. Everything up to that had been like, the shitty shitty shitty faux-emo you always get down south, so Pinball Map, Clayman, Behind Space (and a few underaged pints) completely blew me out of the water.

Recommended Listening and the Forums here are responsible for every good album in my collection. CYHSY, Modest Mouse, Mogwai, The Arcade Fire. I need more music like that. I'm too proud to start a "SUGGESTIONS?!!!1" thread, though. I will lurk in the backgrounds and sample random bands from random threads. Mwahaha!

I love the fact that In Flames still opens with Pinball Map. It's like an apology. "Yeah, we know we suck now, but here's a kickass song anyway!"
