Okay, here's how it works:

The rating system is 1 through 5.
Try to think of one movie for each rating.

Here's how to score a movie:

1) This is not just a bad movie. This is.. really really bad.
Like, you'd gladly pay double the cost of the movie for a papercut instead.
You'd like rounding up everyone involved with this movie, putting them shoulder to shoulder
and then walking down the line, smacking them all in the face, for what they've done.
The only way to possibly enjoy this movie, is by making fun of it, or by being severely masochistic.

2) While not a total stain on the film industry itself, this is still crap.
This is for movies that lack a plot, or any sort of good acting; totally forgettable, or boring.

3) This movie is so-so. Not bad. From average to pretty good.
It serves its purpose.
You see this movie and think, "Yeah, it was all right.."

4) This is an icon of its genre.
These are the classics. These are the Oscar-worthy types.
You laughed, you cried, you were scared half to death, etc.
This movie moved you the way the filmmakers and actors intended.

5) This is one of the movies that changed your life.
After seeing these movies, you brought a bit of their philosophies with you.
Similar situations in real life make you think of this movie, and you react differently because of it.
These are ground-breaking, barrier-crossing, reality-shaking movies. Deep stuff, man.

If you can't think of a movie for each score, that's fine too.

I would contend that there are many highly enjoyable films that have no plot to speak of. For instance, I have very fond memories of Western, a film about two guys travelling through the west of France. And not much else. Or what about feature-length documentaries? What is the "plot" of Waco: the Rules of Engagement?

I meant more along the lines of.. the movie lacks a sense of direction and it's noticeable.. to the point where it makes the movie unenjoyable.
I was just listing a bunch of reasons why a movie might be rated a 2, and a seriously bad plot is one of them

I just thought of an example: Miami Vice.

Good actors, a lot of potential for the movie, but it was so scattered between stories that it made it seriously boring for me.
The idea was 2 cops go undercover to bust a drug ring, and then randomly one of them falls in love with the female dealer, and then for 30 minutes we're stuck in a love story >.>
And then the movie ended LotR style.. several drawn out endings....
If you're gonna do an action/romance movie, do it right!

1 My Architect (Mostly because it was the fucking idiot doing the interviewing, and everyone he interviewed basically was just as annoying as he was. Plus, whoever wrote the score was a hack who ripped off Donnie Darko's soundtrack. Stupid as hell.)

1) Mr And Mrs Smith; the interviews qua When Harry met Sally were fine till the last one-- which ruined the movie
2) the decameron; so heavy handed that it hurt.
3) Ghostbusters 2; not even a shadow of the first
4) 3 days of the Condor; a man paid to read for a living extrapolates correctly and is offered a lift, slow and sexy like a good suspense should-- start turning fast and hard when the foreplay was over
5) Ghostbusters; becasue it wasn't just about ghosts, but about what it is to be a small business in america-- labor and wage issues, EPA compliance, business loan and startup capital problems, niche and dreams of franchise rights. Perhaps one of the more interesting movies to deconstruct.

I thought Pan's Labyrinth was quite amazing, but I would really not consider it one of those life changing movies. Dunno.

1) Cabin Fever (apparently there's a sequel out there of this movie, I vote we find it and destroy every copy of it)
2) Ultraviolet (Tyler, I totally agree with you on this, that movie had probably the worst storyline I've ever witnessed)
3) Anti-trust (they played Diablo 2, brownie points)
4) Six Degrees of Seperation (great cast, great acting, great story, great character development, great dialogue, great message, just great)
5) Thumbsucker (this movie took my breath away, amazing growth in characters and an engrossing storyline that carries a great message)

This movie is so bad, that a sequel would have to be so bad as to break the time-space continuum.
That said, I think Cabin Fever had redeeming qualities in its hilarity.
