David Bowie Cover

I'm looking for the Song Life On Mars, originally by the smexy Mr. Bowie himself, but covered by The Flaming Lips. Does anyone remember which album it appeared on? I want to say it was an EP... but it's been awhile and I'm having trouble finding it.

I was hoping against hope this song would be about Nico's cover of "Heroes."

If you can find that, get it.

Thanks so much, Gridgm! I can't believe I missed that, I feel a fool. And I didn't know Nico covered Heroes, I'll check that out. I do know Philip Glass remixed it, into amazingness at that.

I've always been kinda iffy on that song, it sounds a whole lot like Blondie's heart Of Glass to me.

On a vaguely related note:

In the song Starman the part right before the chorus (first at 52 seconds but repeated a couple times) always sounds intimately familiar to me. Is something like this used elsewhere (it always sounds like a nightly news intro to me)? Has it been sampled? It also feels like something Dozier, Holland and Dozier did at Motown (it has the same feel as the Four Top's song "Bernadette" for one thing).

Can anyone help? I know this is a completely meaningless and insignificant to be curious about but its driving me nuts.

Even better:? Nina Hagen's cover of Ziggy Stardust, but only if you watch the video.

I'm actually very iffy about the Flaming Lips' cover of Life on Mars? but that's because it's one of my favorite songs of all time and I'm a snot about Bowie covers sometimes, even by bands I love.

That said, Tori Amos did a pretty decent job with "After All" and Joan Jett certainly rocked "Rebel Rebel" but that's to be expected. The song practically screams "Cover me Joan! Cover me haaard."

I wonder if I made a nasty little noob faux pas by posting in a thread that's been dead for a couple weeks.

Given the mention of my Bowie obsession in my intro thread, I hope to be forgiven.
