Wowza, you guys sure are resolute. Here are my good intentions:

1. Lose that last 10 pounds by 3/1/07.
2. Go to the gym or cancel membership in same.
3. Ride my bike to work at least twice/week from May-September.
4. Finish Dad's 2005 Christmas present.
5. Buy and install a dishwasher.
6. Save money so I can eventually move to a warmer and drier climate.
7. Save money in another account for travel.
8. Get a new passport with a less horrific photo.

I already kind of broke my no smoking one, but it was under the rarest of cicumstances! I've now only got one exception to my no smoking rule: You are allowed to smoke if and only if it allows you to get to talk to cute boys alone.

I have not smoked since 20 to mindnight on new years eve.

I have also not been to a party since, but I figure I'll be cool if I do. I don't really see this as quiting as such because I never really felt like I needed a cigarette just that I wouldn't mind one.

Not an even greater wall of china. But that's a good idea for next year.  A *much* better idea than a handknit and felted guitar strap that has to be sewn to a strip of material so it doesn't stretch while he plays.  Example at http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall03/PATTbanshee.html.

I just thought of #9:  Don't make any handicraft promises I can't/don't intend to keep!

I read that date as DD/MM/YY so I assumed by the date/time of your post that you had failed all your resolutions.

I think my main resolution is to lose a bit of weight so I don't look in the mirror and go "...oh." anymore. That and maybe get another tattoo.

along with joseph i followed up on my resolution to woo my lady friend and somehow convince her to go out with me. and somehow it worked. sorry joe (although that was a while ago...). i was shocked when she said yes and even more shocked when everything went incredibly well. date number 2 tommorrow night. still a little shocked over this one...my cynicism over resolutions is being eased.

A little late but,

*Quit smoking (so far so good).
*Sort out all my legal shit so I can get on with my life.
*Not get in any more legal shit.
*Get my drivers license back (noticing the theme?).
*Finish drawing up my back piece.
*Move far, far, away from the distractions and negative influences I have here at home, and start a new life by restarting my college career now that I am older, wiser, and far more resolute than I was when I fucked it all up before!
*Actually have some sort of meaningful relationship with the new girl so long as it does not compromise the above.

Also, I resolve to step up my at-the-gym time so that I can get work as a personal trainer before next year's resolutions come out, theoretically allowing me to fund said college career for the next 80+ years.

So, a month and a bit later, how are everyone's resolutions holding up?  Mine seem to be goingalright, considering I still have 11 more months to do things.

Quote
-No longer drink expensive Starbucks drinks when I go there with friends (started this a month ago, with intentions on it being a New Years Resolution).  Instead I'll just be getting black dark roast coffee.
-Ask out the girl I have a thing for.
-Start a journal.
-Get into university out in Toronto or Montreal.
-Meet some more QC folks.
-Start the novel I've been planning.
-Spend more than $100 in a used book store.

-So far I've just stuck with my coffee, it's been much cheaper and nicer.
-The girl things had appeared to go not so well (see earlier in thread), but I saw her last night and we ended up kissing for a bit on her couch.  Success, I'm thinking.
-I think I'll actually get on this one with in the week.  I really should.
-I've applied to university, getting in will wait for acceptance letters to be mailed.  Fingers crossed.
-No luck so far, still just Rubby and Coonstar.
-I've expanded the plot in my mind, no writing done just yet.
-I'm going to do this when I get to wherever I'll be in university, to give me some reading material to start out the school year in a new town with.

As last year for me. Though I managed to pull off all of what I wanted to it's a fairly easy one to just repeat. So far this year it's going meh.

Also, for this year I will turn up and post here for a while, then disappear around maybe june and come back in february again. This place hasn't changed at all (bar the different forums and everyone's name's changing to their actual names, that one took some time to figure out).

I'm half done with the album. I'm studying for the GED so I can tell high school to fuck off altogether. Nobody's stabbed me out of pure agitation (yet) and I've only been b& from 4chan once 'cause I was a dick on the /mu/ board.

So I guess I'm 2/3?

So how did people do

I don't think I posted mine, but it was to write 365000 words on various novels

It's hardly surprising that I failed miserably, but I did get about a third of the way there.

I resolve to plan a ski trip for my fiancee and I this winter. I figure that's a good idea, and it's not like resolutions are really kept up longer than that anyway.

EDIT: I'm referring to this coming year. Did I post any resolutions a year ago? darn now I gotta read the whole damn thread.

EDIT 2:
-Saving up for a new bow and arrow and getting good at shooting defenseless burlap sacks again.
-Learning ninjutsu.
-Hugging more people, also more often.
-Also hugging tigers.
I miss the good ole days.

jhocking, your avatar is quite possibly the best thing I've seen in a while.
Does anyone have any idea what my avatar was back then?

-Normalize sleeping schedule
-Find job for a bit
-get to Oz

Thats about it, not going to go with the "be healthier" stuff as I fail at sports anyway.

Damnit, i screwed up the first one! Its 4am here now...

Ohwell, i guess 2/3 is a pretty good score!

Also, i did a bit on healthyness when i was in oz by swimming regularly, does that get me bonuspoints?

huh, i thought i posted in this thread but i guess i didn't.

i actually accomplished quite a bit this year that had long been on my list of things to do, including getting my grades up, improving my diet, surrounding myself with friends whom i deeply care about and respect and teaching myself guitar. however, from what i recall my only formal news year's resolution from january was to try to make peace with my judgmental side. sadly i don't think i have made any progress here whatsoever. maybe the tiniest bit.

I need to

I think these are attainable and good goals.

I actually did alright with these. I've definitely gotten better at both, but not because I remembered that I resolved to do them.

- Lose weight through exercise, not dieting
- Make art a high priority in my life
- Keep things in perspective
- Memorize poetry

I failed on EVERY ACCOUNT (although I did memorize some Lincoln speeches). But really, I suck, I'm not making any more. I think that I was even more eloquent a year ago when I wrote the opening post for this thread. Jeez.

3840x1024.  HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Yup.

Seriously now:
  • Stop procrastinating.  When I realize I am, just fucking look at the todo list and pick something.

Shit, I never got around to this one.

  • Try at least one thing from lifehack.org every week

Nope.

  • Learn python real good

Yup.

  • Don't be such a giant ass to everyone

Maybe?

  • Stop being a stupid shut-in

Definitely.

  • Go to the gym again (easier once I'm off break and there IS a gym)

I did, and then fell off the wagon again.

  • Eat breakfast

Not really.

  • Sleep enough (bahahahha)

Doing okay on this.

  • Find something to do that will actually stick in history, maybe

Hm. Not really.

  • For every goal acheived, add another to the list.

Nope, I forgot about the list promptly.

Resolutions for this year:

  • Actually try my hardest in school
  • Complete IQP
  • Begin MQP in A term
  • Learn at least 2 programming languages
  • Finally get around to getting drivers' license
  • Take all of my PE requirement
  • Create a free software-oriented section of my site
  • Keep my life organized, from tasks to schedule to money
  • Stick this list somewhere in my work area as a reminder

-Lose some weight (like 10-15 lbs) by exercising more, and eating less junk
-Read more
-Stop procrastinating ie: study every night
-Write, and send written work off to literary journals
-Flirt properly and actually land a boy

Probably only 1,2,4 will happen (maybe).

-Nope, actually gained weight (I think)
-Maybe, more textbooks at least
-Definitely failed
-Oh me and my failed dreams
-This one actually worked out

Also I would like to point out that the combination of Sailor Moon and faux-Kerouac / Sonic Youth spelling is perhaps the purest distillation of what this forum is that we have yet been presented with.

I don't recall making any resolutions to break! Every year I just say 'Let's make this year better than the last one'.
But each year ends up being the same! With good bits and bad bits, you can't really help that.
I think it's time to make it official though.
My new years resolution this year: Live another year. With good bits, and bad bits, and enjoy it anyway. As long as I don't die, it's the only guaranteed resolution I absolutely can not break, even if I want to!

*actually get in an application so as to actually have a job. I need teh monies.
*find several ways to earn said monies.
*actually start going to the gym. I may or may not end up starting this one in my basement until all those people who resolve to do such stop going to the gym and there'll actually be space there
*get the schoolwork done I need to get the grades up and be not on probation for NHS
*actually 5-star every song on Guitar Hero on Hard
*then, beat GH on Expert (probably not happening)

#1:  somewhat done, I submitted applications to places.
#2:  technically done, I made money randomly over the course of the year.
#3:  note really done, I went a few times with my mom and then kinda fell off.
#4:  somewhat done.  I got my grades up enough to not be kicked out on the spot, but that'll be happening in about 3 weeks or so.
#5:  done on GHIII, I think I still have a few on GHI and GHII.  I don't think I even bothered with Hard for '80s.
#6:  done for all 4 games.

jho, even I don't remember what your avatar was back then.

- Not to spend my entire pay-check on delicious cocktails, pints of Guinness, LSD, Star Trek DVDs, and webcomic T-shirts the second it hits my account.

Oh man, I failed at this so hard
