FLIGHT
« on: 29 Jan 2007, 19:13 »

I know someone started a thread about this, but that was like 4 years ago, so I'm starting a new one.  Anyone read either one of the three volumes of this series that are out?  I picked up Vols. 1 and 3 today, and they're excellent!  Some excellent artwork, and some of the stories are absolutely beautiful.

To be honest, I find the artwork really amazing, but the storytelling borders on the trite frequently (excepting Kazu's, of course... The Iron Gate and everything else is excellent). Am I buying Flight 4? Of course.

I wish you would hurry up and get back to work so I can keep reading Flight Vol. 1.  I'm only at the third story, and I love it.

I love Flight. When I first got vol 1 and 3 I read through them in one sitting. I have to revist them from time to time. However, my favorite comic book shop has never had vol. 2 so I have yet to order it. Now I'm waiting for Flight 4 patiently...

Volume 1 is some of the best comics I have ever read. Volume 2 is just like volume 1, but there are even more. Volume 3 kind of strays from the topic and ended up being a little shitty.

I agree with you in that Vol. 3 seems to veer off of the topic of flight, but I don't think any of the stories in Vol. 3 are shitty...just not on-topic.  The one titled "Polaris" is currently my favorite, although I loved the one right at the beginning, "Underworld."  I'm really, really enjoying all of these.  Hopefully some of the artists represented will be at Comic Con this summer, I'd love to see some more of their work.

I got my friend Volume 2 for her birthday (I read it before I gave it to her). I made her open it during school and she shared it with everyone in the photo room, and they all liked it a lot! It was a really good gift and the stories were great, mostly - Kazu's was my favorite.

While many of the stories in the books are centered around the theme of flight, I don't think that's a requirement or even a goal of the artists. According to Kazu, it is merely a collection of good storytelling by him, his friends, and the work of those whom his friends admire.
