Its all about Emo, and backs up its fearmongering with lyrics from the "I Must Be Emo" parody song, and several websites that I guarantee aren't legitimate.  It's a thing of true beauty.

That is the absolute worst in shoddy news reporting that I've ever seen.  Whoever put together that report should honestly be fired.

My favorite part is near the end, when the female newscaster is sitting near the computer, with pictures printed out in black and white ink from google images, talking about cutting boards that you can order online showing you where to cut your wrists.

The funny thing is that all these hysterical news reports about things that supposedly influence kids--be it music, video games, movies, TV, etc.--fail to ask what the kids' home life is like. Also, some people are just born fucked up and there's no rhyme or reason to it.

I'm just glad I played so much Quake all those years ago, because it sure helped me learn how to use firearms. Anyone who's ever fired a real gun knows that it's just as simple as moving a mouse around and press Control, right??

Emo Points!!! Incredible.  You could have put this news story on about 6 years ago and it would have been about goth kids, and the emo kids at the time would have been at an Anniversary show.  Awesome.

What's awesome is that that's how all WDAY/WDAZ reports are. Also: It is the best source of local news of the four main stations. The same station had another fear-mongering piece on piercings and brandings and when it goes TOO FAR. Their definition of TOO FAR was one girl with a bar through the back of her neck, which I don't really think is all that radical.

Has everyone read the Daily Mail article on emo? It is much in line with this.

I'm just dissapointed at how petty the scaremongering has got. Back in the 80's kids were all listening to SATANIC DEATH METAL MUSIC which made them do drugs and kill people. Now they listen to sad songs and scratch hearts in to their arms.

It just shows that the media don't fact check and they don't research.  Blatant misinformation is what it is.  This trend should be called "corporationspreyingonuntelligentasshatsviaclothingstyleandpoppydepressingmusicthatmakeskidsthinkitscooltocutthemselves," not "emo."  For god's sake.

Actually, Flaming Ostrich, that station isn't a corporation. It's owned by Forum Communications, which is owned by the Marcil family. WDAY/WDAZ (the first is Fargo, the second Grand Forks. I live in Fargo and I get both on two different channels) has a radio station as well, which is also family-run (and recently got a lot of attention because the guy who runs it -Scott Hennen-was the fella who got Cheney to admit that waterboarding was a tactic used on Iraqis)

This whole thing is a small town tv station made a story that is hilarious just because most people in their audience has no idea what they're talking about.
