Air - Pocket Symphony. Your thoughts?
« on: 07 Mar 2007, 20:19 »

I know with the release of neon Bible it's hard to think of other albums, but Air just unleashed their latest album on the 5th of March. I have given it a good run throughs now and enjoy it. It's different, really mellow and sleepy at times, but it's comforting. It's growing on me more than I initially thought it would, which I love.

Any other "Air"-heads want to give their 2 cents?

Air are good, but do you really need anything else by them other than Moon Safari?? I really enjoy Talkie Walkie and what little I've heard of 10,000 Hz Legend, but in my opinion they're the kind of band you can easily skip most of their albums and still know what they're about.

I actually like Talkie Walkie leagues more than Moon Safari.

Haven't heart Pocket Symphony.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Their sountrack and score to The Virgin Suicides is their best.

I whole heartedly agree with Johnny C, Virgin Suicides as a lot of really killer songs (ie. Playground Love, Highschool Lover, Dead Bodies) but I find every album has a different style and it works for different moods. But it's really buried under the overall 'Make out music' feel I get off all of them.

Pocket Symphony's largely based off of the track Alone in Kyoto. Kind of like how Decemberists - Crane Wife was more reflective of The Tain. I like it when artists do this, but it kind of narrows the scope of the album.

Ever since Moon Safari Air's stuff hasn't been the same.  The music just isn't as smooth and listenable, and at times comes off as awkward and forced.  Aside from a few good tongue in cheek songs on 10000 Hz...

'Alone In Kyoto' is definitely my favourite Air track, but Moon Safari and Virgin Suicides are my favourite albums. I'll definitely have a listen to the new one at some stage but it's not exactly top priority really.
