Suggestions for a new monitor?
« on: 25 Mar 2007, 15:16 »

Currently, I'm looking to replace my 8 year old, 50lb CRT with a nice LCD widescreen monitor. The following are what I'm considering getting Thursday.

I was also oogling both of them last year but the price has dropped considerably since then. The only problems I've ever heard concerning it was that it doesn't support video cards that do not support HD resolutions, which mine does.

First off, does the "Ultra Crystal Clear Glare display" make enough of a difference to warrant getting the 800:1 contrast rather than the 1000:1 (the higher is $10 cheaper I might add) or is it just a fun name for something that all LCD's already have. Keep in mind I am in a room that gets quite a lot of daylight, and has caused problems for me with my CRT that is not flat panel.

I was also wondering if there are any adapters for the X-Box 360 (hope to buy this year) to hook it up to a monitor such as this so I could actually utilize the HD potential.

Any suggestions for other monitors that aren't $250+, or is this probably the sweetest deal I'll be able to find in my price range?

There is a VGA adapter for the 360, so you should be able to do Hi-Def just fine.  I'm gonna get a 27" Syntax Olevia LCD HDTV/Monitor, so I can plug both my computer and my 360 into it.  It's like 500$ at BJ's Wholesale, and it's got either a 1600:1 or 2000:1 contrast ration, and a fast refresh rate.  The only downside is the speakers on the TV and the slow remote reactions.  But I have other speakers I can use.
