Gosh that's a really really tough question and I probably have no idea. If I had to pick though in a gun-to-my-head sort of situation, I'd have to say "Untitled 8" from Sigur Ros' ( ) album.

Picking Iron Man is cheating.  It's like playing "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" against Jesus Christ.

I've been thinking about it a lot, and it has to be Teen Age Riot.

I'm currently in love with "Your Hand In Mine" by Explosions in the Sky and Snow Patrol's new song for the Spiderman 3 soundtrack.

I'd say something like "Paranoid" would be more cheating.

'Can't Help Falling In Love'

Not Elvis' version specifically, just any version.  I love the song itself, regardless of who's doing it.

Well my favorite song is [ list of much more than one song that I really only like, but name dropping them will get my "indie cred" up.  Hell, I probably won't even remember who this "Steven Milkman" guy is in 10 years.]

But all sarcasm aside, if I had to pick a song that I've always liked and will continue to like, not just some fleeting stuck-in-headedness...either Here Comes Your Man-Pixies because it's a really, really good song or Fuck and Run-Liz Phair because it always makes me sad.

I'm pretty sure I've got it now. Since I've only heard the song once and then never managed to track it down and I've forgotten the artist (though I'm not sure that would help) and maybe the title of the track I'm gonna say that it was the track I remember, not nescessarily the track that was played.

Year before last I think, they had a segment on TripleJ called something about a mixtape they got Craig Schuftan (one of the presenters) on in the afternoon to choose a track. Something usually old and obscure, always something I'd never heard of at the time (but now I recognise the Beefheart and the Zappa and the Wendy Carlos and probably some of the others) and that pushed what the average person listening on the drive home from work was going to tolerate. I think that's part of why the segment isn't there anymore.

One average afternoon I was listening to the radio and the segment comes on so I start to pay attention. I forget everything he said about the track because as I remember it once the the track starts, everything that was before it stops existing. Everything that might happen afterwards doesn't matter. The only thing you notice is the sense of urgency that makes you stop whatever you're doing and open your eyes and ears as wide as you can, and then strain to be even more alert. All of this is over in maybe a minute, minute and a half. Then you stand in silence listening to your heartrate go back down.

I have to track that down.

Is it really that great a song?  It's certainly don't love it, but i don't hate it.  Unless someone's playing Guitar Hero and it's the only song they'll play.

a lot of words

The 1979 7" was reissued on the 21st of April this year. The same day I made that post. The song (you can find an mp3 of it by digging around from here) sounds nothing like how I remember it other than being very DIY. Despite the sound being different, the urgency and the energy is exactly as it played in my head.

Also, credit where credit's due: It turns out the segment that I heard it on was a bit where they got Calvin Johnson on the radio to play 7 songs that he loved instantly upon hearing them. Another track that I remember being incredible was by a group called the Beakers, but I haven't tracked it down.

"Who Wants to Live Forever?"

Not the version from the film, or even the video or live appearances; this is a song where you really have to hear the album track.

Ah, a pick your favorites thread, my actual favorite way of introducing myself..and like many others I really can't pick a solid favorite, theres just way to much good music out there

Now I know a few are going to get me strange looks, but what the hell;
Alice In Chains- Rooster
Slipknot(oh yes, I said slipknot)- Duality or Spit It Out
Blue Oyster Cult- Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll
Skindred- Beginning of Sorrows
12 Stones- Broken

I might be able to narrow down further, but it will be really hard and I will have to sit there indecisive for a few hours, which would really cut into the sleep time

P.S.-McTaggart, So nice to see another morrowind fan out there on the net, all hail Redoran

Are you referring to the Queen song? or another? and what film?

On that note, my favorite song of all time is "It's Late" by Queen

I mean the Queen song; the film is Highlander, which features the first two verses (it was written for the soundtrack, and the single cover is a still frame).  The single has the bridge and final verse, but is missing about a minute of instrumentals at the end that are present on the album and the compilation, and it's sappy as hell, but I'm a sucker for it.
