God of War 2
« on: 18 Mar 2007, 08:30 »

So who's played it? I'm sure no ones quite beaten it yet but it did come out last week and I'm kinda suprised there's been no talk of it on here. I for one am loving every second. Even the overly pretentious New York Times gave it a great review. Anyways, as far as action games go it's one of the best I've ever played, with huge, awesomely designed levels, tons of cool enemies, the best fighting controls I've experienced in an action game, tons of great epic battles, and some very clever and enjoyable puzzles. This will probably be the last great game on the ps2, and based upon the several hours I've played it at this point, it's easily among the best games on the system. Probably on any system.

I've only fought the first boss.

Which wasn't so much a boss as it was an entire goddamned level.

Love it!

I also have only beaten the first boss.

I got it on Friday, but I only play it really late at night because I have the feeling my parents would flip out if they saw me playing it. It's a great game and all, but it's kind of irritating that the gratuity of it all affects how I have to play it.

Heh. I've only beaten the first boss because my dad won't let me play.

Because he's hogging the damn game.

I'm pretty far in...still haven't gotten to the sisters, but I've gotten the Ram's Key, if any of you know where that is.  It definitely feels more epic than the first one...seeing some of the titans....the whole thing is just BIG.

SPOILER
There's a boss a little farther in that's a bitch to beat on pretty much any difficulty (hint: one of Medusa's two remaining sisters).  It took me maybe 12 tries on Normal to finally kill her.

Meh, if you think she is hard i will give you another spoiler to the insanity to come.

After a very annoying room full of exploding flys you go up to see super cerebusses, 2 of them, at first. They spit out little ones that after a while become big ones adding to your fun. After you kill 3 cerebuss 2 upgraded gladiators spawn. The cerebusses go to a maximum of 4 at a time. I personally found fatty easy, and cleared it in one try. This particular boss(set) took me 30 tries to beat. Have fun.

Beat them on my second or third try...

Fun game. I rented it last night finally and beat it. It looks to be a little less than 8 hours long, and it seemed a bit easier than the first so it's not exactly worth $50 to me, but once the price drops I'll be all over that again. I wasn't expecting much from it, so I was really happy.

Psh, that wasn't nearly as hard as the similar "boss" of sorts in the first game. It was one of the Challenges of Poseidon I think. It had tons of those damn Cerberus dogs and they kept spawning and getting larger. That took me literally hours to beat. The one you mention in GoW2 wasn't all that bad actually, although it was one of the games harder moments to the point. The Medusa boss wasn't bad once you got the hang of it. In fact, none of the bosses up to where I am now (I've unlocked the second door with the warriors skull in the Isle of Fates). There haven't been any terribly frustrating parts yet which is very nice. There are so many cool moments in this game, so many epic setpiece battles, that I plan on replaying this right after I beat it. I do expect to be frustrated a bit later on though. I'm sure more difficult parts are to come.

OK look.

In God Of War 1 where you go into the spike pit room and have to push the box.  Where the fuck do you have to push the box to, and where do you have to jump to?  Maybe it was my crap tv screen or maybe I'm just fucking blind, but once I get the box around the corner I can't see where to go from there.  I figured it was probably to the right, but I can't get Kratos the lazy fucker to jump up high enough to get onto the ledge.

The entire fucking game up to that point was easy.  I can't believe I was basically beaten by a goddamned jumping puzzle.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about...I can't remember which wall you have to push it to, but there's a ledge on either the back one or the right one.

Now, I'm currently at the temple of fates....just got in, and I'm confused.  Everything is green and slow.  Kratos is trapped in Flubber.

I borrowed God of War 1 from a friend, who bought it when it was dropped to $20, and I loved every finger licking second of it. It's certainly the kind of game that is a well hewn argument against a $50 price, since I don't think God of War 1 was worth that much as good as it was. Still, once it drops price and/or I can find it used, I'll be all over it like blood on a bare, muscular Spartan chest.

I'm going to get it as soon as I finish the games I'm playing now (Twilight Princess and Rogue Galaxy).

I love God of War's battle system, but I hate all those simon-says sequences where you're just pressing triangle, pressing circle, pressing whatever button happens to appear on the screen and watching Kretos do these spectacular moves you're in no way in control of.

The direction of the Adventure genre confounds me.  Adventure is great for the gameplay, but most of  the newer adventure games have tried to have all these cinematics and spectacular visual shows you have no control over.

And God of War is like the only 3d Adventure game that doesn't have camera angle problems.

i bought it a couple days ago cause i had some store credit after trading in some shit and i was pleasantly surprised. i've already beaten it several times and got my room mates hooked on it but despite how great this game is, i cant help feel like its just the bastard love-child of Rygar and Devil May Cry.

still a great game though even if it's not super original in my book.

Bastard love child of DMC and Rygar...

I can't really disagree with you there, but somehow I don't have a problem with that.

I guess I just like bastard love children of games that are somehow better than the two originals.
