Your ultimate Concert/Festival Line-Up
« on: 27 Apr 2007, 04:18 »

I was looking at Coachella's lineup for this year, and while it looks really good, I went in 2004 and I have to say that was one of the best line-ups I've personally ever experienced.

2004 Big Acts (that I enjoy/ed)
Pixies (Reunited)
Radiohead
Wilco
Rapture
Trail of Dead
Phantom Planet
LCD Soundsystem
Flaming Lips
Air
Belle & Sebastian
Bright Eyes
Mogwai
Muse
BSS
PGMG

That got me thinking, what would your ultimate lineup be? It wouldn't have to be as many as Coachella obviously, which attempts to cater to a broad and diverse audience...the downside of which is that while you see one band you really enjoy, chances are you're missing out on another band you would also enjoy. You could set up your list so that the artist plays right after another. Feel free to throw in bands that would "reunite" for your festival! But try to keep it reasonable!

However, personally, I would refrain from raising the dead.

That being said, my line up would be like this (play right after another, first band listed is first band playing). 20 bands, two days. Mostly just bands I'm really digging right now and would love to see all together.

Day 1
Voxtrot
Destroyer
Band of Horses
The Panda Band
Stars
Interpol
Cat Power
Teenage Fanclub
Wilco
TELEVISION

Day 2
The Softlightes
Architecture in Helsinki
M. Ward
Broken Social Scene
Belle & Sebastian
Rilo Kiley
Wolf Parade
My Bloody Valentine (Reunited)
The Flaming Lips
PINK FLOYD (Reunited, no Syd Barrett though :[)

I'm gonna go for the same set-up as the original poster; two days, ten bands per day, and they play right after each other; no different stages. Probably a pretty accessible list compared to others.

DAY 1
Bearsuit
The Flaming Lips
Broken Social Scene
The Shins
The Pixies
Mudhoney (Reunited)
Mark Lanegan
Eels (With Surprise Guest Tom Waits)
Weezer
The Foo Fighters

DAY 2
Deerhoof
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Chris Cornell
Counting Crows
Beck
Modest Mouse
Man Man
Incubus
Pearl Jam (With Surprise Guest Chris Cornell)
Alice In Chains (Reunited with Mark Lanegan handling vocals)

(I can't decide whether I want Pearl Jam or AiC to be the closer. Alice In Chains with Mark Lanegan on vocals would rock my world, but I can think of no better festival closer than Pearl Jam's "Yellow Ledbetter" or "Come Back")

Well, my town is about to host country star Brad Paisley, so I think it would be great if he played one song and then announced to all the inbreds that Drive Like Jehu and Big Black would be playing the rest of his set.

Hmm... One day, in this order:

Ry Cooder
Richard Bona
Kenny Garrett
David Sanborn with Marcus Miller
Pat Metheny Group

That would be just unreal.

Mine will be a weekend kind of concept.  Only, five bands a day except Saturday (i suck at picking favorites), for three days, in an energetic to mellow sort of progression.  The bands will play really long sets.  Because...idk.  I'm mean.

Friday:

Alexisonfire
Comeback Kid
Snow Patrol
Zox
Anathallo

Saturday (free t-shirt day!):

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Daphne Loves Derby
Longwave
The Hush Sound
Jimmy Eat World
Minus the Bear
The Pillows (All the way from Japan!)
The Junior Varsity
JamisonParker
Explosions in the Sky

Sunday:

The Vincent Black Shadow
The Shins
The Slip
Race The Sun
and finally Something Corporate

Meh, i don't think any of you would go.  Except maybe to see EitS or CYHSY.  But that would be an amazing festival to me.

I thought about reforming At The Drive In, but it didn't really fit with the rest of my festival.

I'm generally not a fan of festivals as I get pretty exhausted and hot halfway through and find myself just wanting to go home.

So:

The Be Good Tanyas
Joanna Newsom
Iron & Wine

at an outdoor festival on a sunny day.

or

The Boy Least Likely To
The Polyphonic Spree
The Flaming Lips

at a fair complete with rides, cotton candy, and games and prizes.

Because the Rutles fit so well with NIN and Bob Dylan?

A super post rock extravaganza:

Day 1:
If These Trees Could Talk
Amiina
Mum
Fridge
Eluvium
Clogs
Stars of the Lid
Magyar Posse
Broken Social Scene playing all of 'Feel Good Lost'

Day 2:
Grails
Explosions in the Sky
Mogwai
Mono
Tarentel
Do Make Say Think
A Silver Mt. Zion
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Sigur Ros

It scares me to think how much money I'd be willing to spend if this was an actual lineup somewhere. For me, it would be heaven.
