Help! Need Good Comic sites!
« on: 19 Jun 2007, 15:40 »

Alright so ive just recently been introduced to the world of webcomics. So far i have read all of the QC strips and all the strips on applegeeks.com. Does anyone else know any good comics that have a continuous story like these to do. Most that i find are short and kinda dumb. Ive read ctrlaltdel which is good and ive read penny arcade. Anything else good about games, music, computers, whatever. someone give me some i need more readables.

Pretty much everyone on here would recommend Achewood, and for good reason.
Most of the time, it's got some sort of surreal storyline going on, and I can guarantee that you're not going to find it that funny when you start reading it, but soon you will start getting it, and it will be amazing.
A lot of folks like Scary Go Round, and it certainly has a storyline like you want, but personally I don't enjoy it that much, though I think that might just be because I never really got into the storyline. Given its popularity, I assume that there's a good chance that you will get into it.
Dr. McNinja is a great comic, with a storyline, that is cleverly written and full of jokes. Read it if you want something light to enjoy.

If you are a big literature nerd, and I mean big(Do you like Thomas Pynchon? If you have no idea who I'm talking about skip to the next paragraph), check out Cat and Girl

The Dinosaur Comics are hilariously funny. One of my favorites.

For a true nerd comic, check out xkcd. Another one of my favorites.

ETA: I knew I was forgetting one! Check out the pbf. It's one of the greatest.

If you are looking for storylines, and great art, you can't go far wrong with www.megatokyo.com It starts out almost ctrl-alt-del does Japan...but gets rapidly more complex (especially after largo left the team) I highly reccomend it.

And i'm taking a great risk of being set upon by Jeph's hungry hungry wolves by mentioning it, but www.samandfuzzy.com is also a top, plot-based comic.

I also enjoy www.wondermark.com a hell of a lot, but there's no plot there at all...so it's probably not what you're looking for.

Hope that helps.

The link below is to a strip with a continuous storyline. It's not about "games, music, or computers" but it definitely IS about "whatever."

I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but Sluggy Freelance may or may not be your cup of coffee. But it surely has ongoing storylines. And some gag a days. It sort of Ceroberosed.

Just look at "The Best of the Best" section on my links page.  I still don't link to everything I should, but the page will provide you with a good start.

Since many good ones have already been suggested, I will go ahead and put down the ones I like that haven't been mentioned.

These two are both poorly drawn and don't really have a story line, but they manage to make me laugh on a very consistent basis.

In alphabetical order, here are a few more deservedly popular story webcomics:

  • Crimson Dark is Whedonesque sci-fi.
  • Erfworld is set in a world that acts like a fantasy TBS. I have a particular affection for it.
  • Girl Genius is an awesome mad science webcomic, phenomenally popular for good reason. They're having site difficulties right now but it appears to be a one-time thing.*
  • Order of the Stick is a D&D webcomic with a great ongoing story.

Also, here's the link to my most recent spotlight on an underdiscussed webcomic (which I call a Scilight), Head Trip. Press the "show" button for links to the previous Scilights. My signature there on the Giant in the Playground forums always has a link to the latest Scilight, usually posted before midnight on Sundays.

* They were simultaneously syndicating from the beginning of the story (GG 101) and a point later on (the Advanced Class) because they brought it to the web after already having some issues in print. The end of GG 101 just caught up with the beginning of the Advanced Class, so then everyone who'd been holding off from reading strips out of order started tearing through the Advanced Class archives. The archive CGI script placed too much load on their webserver's CPU -- coincidentally right after they moved to a new host for more bandwidth.

I agree with Order of the Stick, you don't have to be a D&D fan to appreciate it.

Additionally if you enjoy videogames I recommend Ctrl+Alt+Del, VG Cats, and Dueling Analogs.

A few other good ones are Ever After, Sugar (or honestly whatever bleedman is working on at the time), Cyanide and Happiness (random semi-offensive nuttyness), and the ever delightful Beaver and Steve.
