Topic: My new, uh, "bandname" (Read 12707 times)

So Ive been doing music, calling myself "2 Seconds of Magic". However, feeling this is both a somewhat pretentious name but also a rather shallow one, Ive been thinking bout changing it to "Phosphene". I like Phosphene better cause its shorter, alot of people dont know what it means, and I think it reflects the kind of music I make. So what do you think?

Spontanious reactions on "2 Seconds of Magic"?

On "Phosphene"?

Edit: Well the more people say they suck, the more I think they suck, so forget about those two. How about Sleep Hop? Considering the fact that I mostly do some kind of instrumental trip hop aiming for a large, "dreamy" sound?

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of either, but I do like 'Phosphene' better. What kind of music do you play?

Not play as much as make really. Mostly some kind of instrumental abstract hip hop/trip hop. Much of my stuff is a little dreamy, I think. I tend to try to create a "large" sound, not crisp like old ninjatune or shadow stuff. Reverb and compression!

2 seconds of magic reminds me of 7 minutes in heaven, which makes it funny. phosphene, well, i think its a bad name.

Bad metal? I think Phosphene mostly sounds like an english Drum n Bass-artist

But do you know what it means? Cause floaty figures you see when you close your eyes dont seem too metal to mee?

Phosphene sounds like a bullshit generic drug or chemical name, which is actually perfect for the music you're going for. Kinda reminds me of something like Photek or Kitaro (kidding!!).

Yeah, 2 Seconds of Magic sounds eithe like 30 Seconds to Mars or something like 60-70s era music. Phosphene reminds me of stuff like Modest Mouse (stuff like "Dramamine"). It would make sense to name it something like that, considering the music you make.

"Phosphene" is generic and forgettable. "2 Seconds of Magic" might be a bit cheesy, but it's memorable.

Just throw a bunch of syllables and/or words and/or letter in a hat, mix them around, pull a certain number of them, and make a band name out of that.

I don't like either name much to be honest, but I doubt I'd like your music either from the description. My only constructive suggestion is to try a pseudonym generated using this:

Well, I agree with 2 Seconds of Magic being bad, especially that it sounds like premature edjaculation and like I think Im really something. I like Phosphene because of what it means, but I dont like the word itself. Sounds like a CS nickname. Only synonym for phosphene I can think of is entoptic phenonemon or just entoptic, but that doesnt sound to good either.

I've been playing around with "OK Soda" as a band name.

For those not in the know, OK Soda is a brand of soda that the Coca Cola Company tried out in the mid 90's when they found out that "Coke" was the second most internationally recognizable word in the world, losing only to "OK"

It's amusing, but hardly anyone knows what it means. Which very well may just be the point.
