Games you're looking forwards to.
« on: 05 Jun 2007, 20:29 »

I thought I'd start a thread about them.  What games are you guys looking forward to.  I probably won't be able to play half the next-gen games that come out, if any of them.  But anywho.

Does anyone like the Medal of Honor series?  It rocked on PC, but was mediocre on the consoles.  I'm really looking forward to Medal of Honor: Airborne.  It looks absolutely brilliant and gorgeous.  Also, Hellgate: London.  I probably would've never known about it until I heard something about it here.

Games I'm super excited for are in bold.

Bioshock
Assassin's Creed
Blue Dragon
Castle Crashers
Fable 2
The Darkness
Mario Strikers Charged
Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn
Mass Effect
Stranglehold
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
No More Heroes
Guitar Hero 3 (especially for the wireless controller)
Starcraft 2
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (I skipped out on the GC/PS2 version, so if the Wii controls add to the game I'll probably pick it up)
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Luminous Arc
Last Remnant
Fallout 3

That's all the top of my head and a quick browsing of my Gamespot I Want list gets me. I've only listed the ones for platforms I actually own, so if the PS3 stuff Sony has coming out soon is mind-blowing enough to actually justify its obscene price (or if it gets a price cut), those will obviously be important too. Or maybe they'll actually come out with games that make a PSP worth buying. Hopefully not every one of these will end up being good, or I'm going to end up broke.

Guitar Hero '80s
Guitar Hero 3
Call of Duty 4
Halo 3
Any of the Guitar Hero variants (Band Hero, Guitar Villain, etc.)

Is that Medal of Honor game for the PC or consoles?  Personally I thought European Alliance kicked some serious ass.

Bioshock
SSB Brawl
Warhammer Online
Resident Evil 4 for the Wii

Apparently (read: according to the single review I've read) the Wii port of RE4 does a world of good for the game. Also, I don't have an gamecube controllers, so this will be a version that I can actually play through.

I dunno about any of you, but I'm lookin' forwards to Harmonix's next non-Guitar Hero project, whatever it may be.  I've been, like, a huge Harmonix advocate since the days of Frequency, so this is like the holy grail of gaming for me.

The Sims Wii
Dragon Age
Mass Effect
Super Smash Bros. Wii
Metroid Prime 3
Dragon Quest IX
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chonicles: The Crystal Bearers
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles DS
Starcraft 2
Hellgate: London
Fallout 3 (The teaser has turned me from "bitter and cynical" to "cautiously optimistic")
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
Portal
Team Fortress 2
Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword

I'm far too excited about far too many games., and I've probably forgotten a couple.

Rasufelle, the game you're looking for is Rock Band. I'm not sure how to feel about it. I mean, on one hand Harmonix makes great games and they always have. On the other, they're with EA and MTV this time, two groups that I have a whole lot of difficulty putting faith in.

Yeah, I know, but still... even an MTV license can't hurt them too bad, can it?

Can it?

Oh, God, help me, I just remembered- MTV has never been part of the release of a good video game, have they?

Stupid, stupid, stupid...

Let's see, since I'm planning to buy a 360 at the end of the summer (It'd be an utter waste for me to drop the money right now, I barely play video games in the summer), I'll include those. Thankfully, they haven't announced a single game I'd be willing to drop money for a PS3 for that isn't coming to 360:

Nintendo DS:
Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hour Glass
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
Sonic Rush Adventure

Nintendo Wii
No More Heroes
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Recently announced for Wii as well)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Probably my current most anticipated game)
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (I LOVE rail shooters, so all the general complaints are moot to me)
Mario Strikers: Charged (I HATE soccer, but loved the original Mario Strikers)
The Bigs (The first real Wii baseball game. I am dying for this one)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Yes, I am actually interested in it. It's been described as "Bully with Wii controls and a Harry Potter bent." I'm sold on that concept)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers

Xbox 360
Guitar Hero 3 (Unless there's some really nifty Wii exclusive features, I'll want the 5.1 surround version)
Resident Evil 5
Assassin's Creed
Fable 2
Blue Dragon
Devil May Cry 4
The Last Remnant

PC
Hellgate: London
Marvel Universe Online

I've been told that when MTV bought Harmonix, they dismantled a good chunk of the employment and moved the offices. I can't find for sure either way online, but after glancing at their Wikipedia entry, I might go try to investigate personally, as their building is apparently only a block away from my apartment: Harmonix HQ, Cambridge, MA. Yahoo's yellow pages does confirm that location, as the address listed matches up with the area of that building (The Starbucks in that picture is 655 Mass Ave, Harmonix is listed as 675). I didn't know this before this morning and am suddenly eager to snoop around after work.

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (it's the only MMO I've looked forward to)
Blue Dragon
Bioshock
Half-Life 2 Orange Box (360)
Halo 3
Haze
Hellgate: London
LittleBigPlanet
Mass Effect
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
Overlord
Spore
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
The Darkness
Too Human
Two Worlds
Unreal Tournament 3
Fallout 3
Starcraft 2

And one game that hasn't exactly been confirmed:
Dead Rising 2

I'm excited enough to want to buy all of those...I may borrrow lesser games from my friends/rent them.

Yeah it is, dude.  It's the last one to be made by Harmonix.

'80s (coming out before GH3) and all subsequent games are going to be made by Neversoft, who bought the GH license from Harmonix.

I think.  Unless wikipedia is lying to me.

Guitar Hero 3 is being made by Neversoft, but when you think about it, all the hard work for Guitar Hero has already been done by the first two games. Activision (or more specifically, RedOctane) still owns all of the stuff from the first two games, so all the design process really entails for GH3 is plugging in the new songs and redrawing the graphics to look nicer, maybe slapping in a new mode or two. The core gameplay will be identical unless something goes horribly (and completely unexpectedly) wrong.

Neversoft has almost TOO good of a record when it comes to 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.'  Look at the Tony Hawk series.  I doubt they're gonna change anything for GH III, though I am worried about how they're gonna set up the buttons for the songs- that was entirely Harmonix work on finding what felt right for button presses.

Pokemon Battle Revolution
Super Mario Galaxy
Starcraft 2
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Spore (delayed until 2008 now, but I'm still excited about it)

However, my complete lack of money will prevent me from getting all of these as soon as they come out. I'm considering getting a job this summer, but it would seriously interfere with my laziness.

STALKER was a major disappointment for a game I've been following for 5 years. I'm not looking forward to a sequel so much as I am to GSC releasing a finished product. The STALKER universe, much like the one of Fallout, is an absolutely amazing concept that I think many of us would love to see as a fleshed-out game, the difference between the two games being what I figure to be deadlines. Who knows, maybe STALKER 2?

Fallout 3 for sure. I need to find myself a copy of 1 and 2 that run on XP, though, because it has been a very long while.

I am like ten percent through downloading Will Rock. I remember playing the demo a while back and it was the silliest Serious Sam style shooter I've seen in a long time.

Also, the Battlenet D2 ladder is getting reset on the 25th. Should be interesting to see how it goes without high level characters and a ton of awesome items.

Oh man, I've been playing d2 fairly solidly for 14 hours. My sorc is level 65 and last I checked I was ranked 322 (out of I dunno, well over 5000 doesn't seem competely wrong). I got a message from a friend in the morning, around 9 saying that the ladder was going back up in about half an hour. An hour, a quick shower, a bunch of coffee and moving the computer over to his place later we start our characters. I bet I can and will be doing Baal runs in my sleep.

5 more levels, getting some cheap magic find gear and a rush past nightmare baal to go and then it's running the pit for items. When I've got some semblance of a decent kit going for either a pnb necro, or a sniper zon I'll start that character and work on getting them to 85 or so.

Bioshock
Fallout motherfucking 3 motherfucker.
I'm going to buy a 360 just for Army of Two and possibly Dead Rising

Kane & Lynch.  IO does Michael Mann, with a borderline lethal dose of twisted for good measure.  I'm gonna buy three copies.
Stranglehold.  Big question: did they pay John Woo to put his name on it or is he actually 'creative directing' it?  Not that I particularly care.

And all the STALKER shit that's been announced (Blue Sky...)  I gotta hand it to GSC...dissappointment about vanilla STALKER aside, they're sure developing the IP full bore.  What's another year or two after five, right?
