Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
« on: 06 Jun 2007, 06:13 »

This is a really weird idea to wrap my head around, but apparently they're makin' it, so hopefully it'll be fun.  How would Mario even get to Beijing, anyway?  Does the Mushroom Kingdom even have an airport?

I should assume Beijing has working plumbing. Mario don't need no airplane, he's travels by pipe.

But would there be a pipe opening in Beijing large enough for him and all his cohorts to fit through?  And not a sewage pipe, because I'm pretty sure Mario's classier than that.

Oh, and isn't Sonic supposed to be from a different planet or something?

Well, if they collect all the chaos emeralds, I don't see why not. I seem to recall Sonic hanging out in space for the last levels of both Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles.

Shit. I gotta bust out Sonic Mega Collection when I get home. I'm craving me some Sonic the Hedgehog 2!

They should put actual Olympic athletes in this game, too, just to up the "lol wut" factor.

Only if they add in Shaq Fu as an event.

Weird. I might get it just because I love the title.

i think you are all missing the absolutely HUGE potential here.  the BIGGEST videogame rivalry EVER is about to be sorted on the track!  This is better than a fight between Liu Kang and Ryu.  It's gonna come to an end!  the bitter fued will be sorted out, at the olympics!!!!! this is AWESOME!

Yeah, but if a slightly overweight plumber is shown to outrun the worlds fastest hedgehog in the 100m sprint, a million fanboys will cry out for vengeance.

This actually has a lot of promise, just for being an olympic game on the Wii.  Up to now, we've been stuck with the usual button-mash and timing stuff that started on the Amiga and never really changed, but the motion control could be great, if they get it right.

Come to think of it, a lot of the olympic events can be 'Mario'd' pretty well.  Pirahna Plants replace hurdles, and so on.
Personally, I'm hoping that the hammer toss features bowser being thrown.  We know Mario's good at that, at least.

Well, according to wikipedia, the summer olympics feature Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Taekwando, and Wrestling.

Fencing seems like fun! Wrestling sounds challenging.

Wii fencing could be amazing. I doubt it'll be much like real fencing though.
