That actually does piss me off. But Watterson said something to the effect of since that image was never actually in the comic, it's not licensed so they can't really do anything about it.

It ticks me off too. I just saw one today! The big one that floated around when I was younger was a Calvin look-a-like peeing on a rival school's logo (eg: "Calvin" in Ohio State gear peeing on a Michigan logo). At one point, I detested that image so much that I desired to pull together an online "militia" bent on eradicating the use of it...but then procrastination stepped into the fray.

The thing that's "wrong" to me about that picture that Calvin comes across as "bad" in it -- pissing on whatever it is that someone doesn't like.  Calvin was not a bad kid.  He was mischievous, not really rebellious so much as just not paying attention to authority (which is not the same as actively going against it), inquisitive, hyper, and had infinite imagination.  He was definitely a challenging kid.

But he would not piss on something.  Using Calvin as the symbol of taking someone down a notch like that just isn't right.

Calvin of all cartoon characters pissing on (insert sticker here) is very random.  Why not Stewie Griffin or Daffy Duck or Vegeta or Invader Zim?  They're so much more appropriate.

Only one of them existed in american culture when those stickers started coming out. And honestly, Daffy Duck isn't that bad, he's just a little loony.

For the first 24 years of my life, I did not know that pickles were actually cucumbers.  When I learned that, this comic became one of my all-time favorites.  :-)

Um, pretty sure Calvin didn't use profanity.  Funny though.

The original word, I believe, is "mud." Remember, syndicated comic.
Anyway, as of about a month ago the final strip has been my wallpaper. Also, reading through this thread, the Raccoon story has made me water up a little. In a manly way, of course.

Also, while we're posting stuff not by Bill Watterson, this one makes me happy.

Also I would like to point out that the combination of Sailor Moon and faux-Kerouac / Sonic Youth spelling is perhaps the purest distillation of what this forum is that we have yet been presented with.

I really laughed my ass of when I was reading the last coments on page 3. Come on guys.. This is the internet. You should know by now that the rule 34 is for everything... EVERYTHING and without exceptions.

And yeah... My childhood was beautiful, thank you very much and I still think that the fake comic was hilarious.

And I agree with Llewellian... The philosophic ones are really beautiful. about a really complex matter but simple enough for a child.

This thread is full of teh win.

I was always a "Far Side" fanboy myself, and now I see what I was missing by ignoring the rest: including "Calvin & Hobbes". Of course, when the whole of the Memphis comics revolved around tripe like "Curtis", "Baby Blues", "Family Circus", and the one with that black cop who looks like Will Smith - who can blame me?

The final strip.

I was 5 or 6 years old then, and it was the first time anything that wasn't a skinned knee or somesuch made me cry.

'Course, it was fun growing up and starting to see the different levels of meaning in the strip.

I'd have to say my favorite strip was the one where Calvin is hiding on the roof because his bike chased him through the house and destroyed everything. So...bizarre.

The snowman strips turned me onto the comics a few years ago.

Oh also when Calvin sent Valentine hate-mail to Susie Derkins.
