Screw that, get a roller tune-o-matic bridge for an extra $5.

Only problem is that the mounting post spacing is a bit different. But there are tons of roller bridges on that site.

I wonder how much it would be to build a Jazzmaster using parts off that site.  It didn't look like they carry those pickups, though.

Anyone else have problems with their jag having a shit bridge. Cause i did, i have no idea why the decided to make such a shitty design for the bridge when there are plenty of others out there. Luckily it is easily fixed by getting a jagstang bridge or equivalent and putting in on. Makes playing it such a better experience.

Yeah, I just have an allen wrench, I'll do the Mustang Bridge thing soon - anyone know where one could find them for cheap?
No, don't.
Just get the Mustang saddles, that's all you need and shouldn't set you back ten bucks.

Well, it all depends on the circuit I use, that gives you the plunkin' and was probably the lead circuit with the strangle switch, but i can get an almost-acoustic like sheen to my sound on the rhythm circuit.

No, the originals were the "reverse" ones.  The "non-reverse" were the late-60s instruments that almost look like a normal guitar; the originals were the neckthru mini-explorer beauties of the early 60s.

And you are wrong.

The earliest Gibson Firebirds (The Firebird III, V, and VII) were the "reverse" ones with neckthru construction, then a few years later Gibson mirrored them to make "non-reverse" models with the tuners on the proper side and everything and they looked just like jazzmasters

Uh... it looks to me like you two are saying the same thing. He says the first ones were "reverse", so do you. He says that they were later reversed again, to look like conventional designs. So do you. Unless there are differences in the minutiae that I am missing.

the jazzmaster/jaguar bridge was a rather cool idea that was massively fucked up in execution. It has multiple ridges so if you wanted to alter the spacing of your strings, you could, but it also made the strings pop out. This is why ever since the Mustang existed, you put a mustang bridge on your jaguar/jazzmaster

They're generally fine if you use heavy enough strings (remember Jazzmasters and Jaguars were invented when heavy flatwound strings were the norm), .011 is enough, .012 on Jags if you wanna be safe. You could also file your preferred groove in the saddle deeper, which ought to be really stable.

As if Shakira wasn't hot enough, she plays Mustangs. Mustangs with rhinestones FUCKING EVERYWHERE.

Nah. The Non-Reverse were brought back by the Custom Shop a few years back, but they're not in production anymore. The normal "reverse" ones are still being churned out in Nashville.

(however, Eastwood does a nice version of a non-reverse)

If they decide that it doesn't work, they're not only fucked, but they've destroyed a factory-original part on a $1400 guitar.

I mean, you can mod your expensive guitar all you want, but don't come crying about it if it doesn't work and you can't go back. Remember that Fender has a history of discontinuing some models for no good reason.

Filing a saddle is a very basic and easy part of a setup.  Literally every guitar should have its bridge filed at least once.

And Pat, it's only a 7 to 800 guitar if you're filing it down, the saddles on the Americans are stable, apparently.  My jaguar's is sometimes a pain.  She can take a beating though.

Seeing as a replacement bridge and the original part are identical, why not try it on the original first and buy a new one if you fuck it up? It's not like we're shooting for vintage-all-original value on a new guitar and a replaced bridge isn't going to reduce the value at all, might increase it if you put on a Mustang bridge due to the bad rep Jag and Jazz bridges get. And if we're talking CIJ, we're not talking $1400.

Some people still do it to their AVRI Jazz/Jags :\

One interesting thing I've noticed on those saddles... I was using my friend's bass (I have no idea who the hell made it) and it had Jag saddles on the bridge. I only had problems with bridge buzz on the G, and I actually kindof -liked- the sound.

Yes, but the G on a bass is still bigger than any guitar string.

I would use 9s because of the sustain thing. Jags are supposed to have that very short banjo sustain, imho.

1. HOLY SHIT! SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T LIKE PAVEMENT! Who cares, really? I have no strong feelings either way on Pavement, even if without them we wouldn't have Weezer or Blur's self titled album or whatever. I plan on looking into them, but not yet. 'Stereo' is a hell of a song, though.

2. I didn't say the album was shit, I said the album title was shit. The album might be the best thing ever in the world ever, but I couldn't care less about KT Tunstall and her album has a stupid name. And yes, that Pavement album may well be great, but it's still got a stupid name, just like, for example, virtually any self-titled album (with some notable exceptions).

Got a Hagstrom Swede today for $500 at a local shop.  I heard of them online and didn't think anyone in my town would actually stock them, but the tiniest music shop had a full rack of them.  It seems a hell of a lot nicer than similarly priced epiphones, fenders, etc.  This one's really dark red, it looks a lot nicer than the pictures I've seen online.  First electrogutfiddle for me, I'm pretty pumped!

Just for the record, I have discovered that the Sheraton is not only an amazing studio instrument, but holy fuck I played an entire show on nothing but, and it has been determined by the masses (read: maybe 50 people at most) that it is an amazing guitar for shows.

I would use 9s because of the sustain thing. Jags are supposed to have that very short banjo sustain, imho.

Jags have short sustain regardless of what strings you use because of the short scale, light break angle over the bridge and tremolo tailpiece. If you used 9s on a Jag you'd probably get fret buzz, maybe poor tuning stability and a really slinky feel.

My Jag bridge pretty much works perfectly with no mods, except a thin layer of tape around the two bridge posts to keep the posts from buzzing against the bridge cups. My Casino tune-o-matic buzzes more, really....

Sheratons are sweet guitars, I was taking care of one for a while and it played and sounded pretty great.

I found some soundclips I recorded with my Jag a while ago. These were actually made to demonstrate the Boss RE-20 digital space echo thing.

http://media.putfile.com/Space-Echo---Chaos-Swirls-Clean-Jag
This one has the delay feedback right on the edge of self oscillation, you get all these swirly overtones under your sound.

Just a silly reggae groove I whipped up on my Gameboy, I think the Jag character is quite audible here. Subtle echo, I demonstrate the "twist" function on the pedal in the middle of this clip somewhere but the echo volume wasn't up high enough to sound very crazy.

Excuse the sloppy playing. Recorded with an SM57 and a Traynor YVC40WR amp or whatever they call it.

It's not just "that" album, it's all the other ones, too

Wait so you're letting something that happened 10 years ago ruin your quality of life? What are you, America? :psyduck:
