The saddle *design* is actually pretty interesting, but ultimately the execution is just off, even if y're not a wimp playing 9s.
I can't help but wonder which specific strings are buzzing in each gauge that buzzes.
I would use 9s because of the sustain thing. Jags are supposed to have that very short banjo sustain, imho.
Jags have short sustain regardless of what strings you use because of the short scale, light break angle over the bridge and tremolo tailpiece. If you used 9s on a Jag you'd probably get fret buzz, maybe poor tuning stability and a really slinky feel.
My Jag bridge pretty much works perfectly with no mods, except a thin layer of tape around the two bridge posts to keep the posts from buzzing against the bridge cups. My Casino tune-o-matic buzzes more, really....
Sheratons are sweet guitars, I was taking care of one for a while and it played and sounded pretty great.
I found some soundclips I recorded with my Jag a while ago. These were actually made to demonstrate the Boss RE-20 digital space echo thing.
http://media.putfile.com/Space-Echo---Chaos-Swirls-Clean-JagThis one has the delay feedback right on the edge of self oscillation, you get all these swirly overtones under your sound.
http://media.putfile.com/Space-Echo---DubBoy-JagJust a silly reggae groove I whipped up on my Gameboy, I think the Jag character is quite audible here. Subtle echo, I demonstrate the "twist" function on the pedal in the middle of this clip somewhere but the echo volume wasn't up high enough to sound very crazy.
Excuse the sloppy playing. Recorded with an SM57 and a Traynor YVC40WR amp or whatever they call it.
