Awww...that looks adorable in a romantic comedy meets Napoleon Dynamite kind of way.  The latter of which i never really liked though.

I thought Napoleon Dynamite was pretty awful, but the comparisons are pretty obvious.  I think this should be awesome.

The Napoleon Dynamite comparisons are completely without merit, it's a completely different brand of humour and the only reason people make the comparison is because they can't think of anything else which is similar.

Guys, I want you to tell me about any journalist/film critic who makes the comparison, because they will instantly lose any credibility they have and I like to be in the loop.

I was comparing it to Napoleon Dynamite because the male character seemed a lot like Napoleon.  If this movie did turn out to be anything like Napoleon Dynamite, I probably wouldn't ever see it.

I had to decide between starting a new thread about Eagle vs. Shark and being directed to this thread, or bumping up this thread and taking any abuse that may come my way, and I chose the latter :P

Saw this movie when I was in Toronto, and it was a great experience (so was being in a North-American theatre for the first time, I must add). I haven't seen Napoleon Dynamite, so I can't say whether or not the two're at all similar, but Eagle vs. Shark at least was wonderfully sweet and CHARMING, and very satisfying. It didn't rely on truckloads of sarcasm for the humour, which I think made it a lot more accessible. Not too much slapstick, no toilet-humour, no quick, sharp wit or clever wordplay from the main characters at least (because they're, well, kinda retarded). And yet most of us were laughing and enjoying ourselves throughout the movie. Sign of great writing and acting, that is, think I :) the lead actress was so adorable I fell in love with her despite her apparent retardation (shush, I can't think of a better word at this time of night!).

I'd recommend it. Of course, I didn't have to pay to see it, but I think I would've :)

Cheers!

-- P

PS. Pretty sweet soundtrack, too!
