I shouldn't be posting in here because I haven't seen the film yet, and spoilers are probably abounds, but I can't help thinking that fans of Anderson are constantly displeased with his shifting styles. Is Hotel Chevalier a good introduction to what the movie will be like?
Is it really better then the movie?

More or less. I think the movie had more subtle humor to go with it, though. The big thing to me is that Hotel Chevalier is actually a pretty essential part to the plot of the rest of the movie.

Is it better than the movie? Yes and no, I think it could really just depend on the mood you're in while watching the short and the film, like it could go back and forth each time you view it.

Hotel Chevalier is a Wes Anderson film condensed. It's as funny, as poignant, as tragic, as beautiful and as thoughtful as his best feature-length work, but presented within a much shorter timespan and a much tighter focus - it's a very lean work.
