These people are so fucking stupid. I just can't fucking believe this list. How did Norah fucking Jones(who I do like) beat Aretha Franklin? Why is there only one Rush album on this list, and why is it number 198??? The fucking Grease soundtrack beat Rush. WTF. Do people really need the Grease soundtrack? How did Will Smith beat fucking Rush? This list is all kinda of fucked. Just fucking fucked.

Even if you don't like Rush, you can still agree that they need to be on there more. They are pretty influential. But it's not just the Rush shit that has me all pissed off.

Name me one reason why Will Smith should be on there.

How the fuck did Coldplay fucking beat out the fucking Clash???

Why is Dave Mattews band on there, and how did they fucking beat David Bowie?

Why are there two Green Day albums on there?

Why the fuck is Kenny fucking G on there?

Of all the soundtracks, why is there no Rocky Horror Picture show on there?

No Lou Reed. No Velvet Underground. No Smiths. No Flaming Lips.

This list of  "Definitive" music, this list of albums you must have to complete your collection is sadly lacking.

Emilio, I know that you are an Awesome Dude with tastes in music, but we cannot be friends any more unless you take back that statement.

Emaline, I wouldn't worry so much, its obvious that the was some sort of error in the production of this list, maybe they were extremely drunk or something, because Revolver is not number one, and actually below the White album.

DMB is better than David bowie and RHPS is not nearly that great a soundtrack, hardly essential my any measure worth thinking about.

Just out of interest, dude who seems to really like David Bowie but who's name I didn't actually read, have you noticed that no-one else has images in their signatures? If you have, have you thought at any point that it's a little odd that no-one has them and maybe that made you feel a little uncomfortable?

I'm not trying to be rude, but trying to get in a question that's bothered me every time I see someone new with an image in their signature. We tend not to appreciate them here as they clutter up the otherwise usually neat boards.

All I can say is that it's pretty goddamn hilarious that Rolling Stone puts Jimi Hendrix as the #1 Guitarist Of All Time, and "Are You Experienced?" gets relegated to #33 (after Def Leppard and the Dixie Chicks no less).

In all seriousness, Rush has been ruined for me.  My old roommate (who sucked beyond belief) was absolutely in love with Rush.  It was his favorite band ever and he would play it all the time.  I can't even tell you if they are talented are not, every time I hear them I'm filled with such intense contempt that I can only view them as one of my least favorite bands.

This brings to mind the Top 100 guitarists thread.

Man that list sucked.

Back on topic it ranks the Black Album 14th then Master of Puppets 75th? WTF?

It is possible that this list is ranked on album sales...I know the top three are amongst the highest selling albums of all time. In saying that I thought Thriller was number 1 so idk.

See, you are upset that other people think differently from you, it's ok that you think different, ion fact, it's great! Specially when you think differently from something as absurd as the rock and roll hall of fame. as others have pointed out, the fact that this list will be shit is aboutas surprising as the sky being blue or a bear shitting in the woods. I'd suggest you rethink your life if you are upset by how they arranged a list of music albums. You could also just look at the list and have a giggle, I looked at the top ten and there is really only one album there i'd consider top ten, and only other one i'd put on a top 50, it's pointless for me to get upset when i obviously have a completely different thinking than them.

Now, (responses in red)

Even if you don't like Rush, you can still agree that they need to be on there more. They are pretty influential. But it's not just the Rush shit that has me all pissed off.
I think Rush is a fantastically boring band with one of the blandest outputs i've ever listened to. I would not only not agree on them being more represented, but i would be perfectly content with them not existing at all.

Name me one reason why Will Smith should be on there.
I don't think will smith should be there, although the theme from the fresh prince is infinitely better than anything Rush or Metallica or Santana or Pearl Jam or U2 or AC/DC  or The Grateful Dead (who are all top 20 there) have ever done.

How the fuck did Coldplay fucking beat out the fucking Clash???
Coldplay is probably more appealing to the sort of people who would read this list

Why is Dave Mattews band on there, and how did they fucking beat David Bowie?
see above

Why are there two Green Day albums on there?
They must be very popular with the people who care about these things

Why the fuck is Kenny fucking G on there?
see above

Of all the soundtracks, why is there no Rocky Horror Picture show on there?
I don't think that soundtrack is very good, it is funny in a ktischy way, but i would not say it is essential in any way. I'd instead protest the absence of Paris, Texas' soundtrack by Ry Cooder, and so many other fantastic western soundtracks

No Lou Reed. No Velvet Underground. No Smiths. No Flaming Lips.
The R&R Hall Of Fame's target audience doesn't care about these bands.

I searched almost all of my favorite bands, and only two albums came up (Radiohead's OK Computer, #111, Smashing Pumpkins's Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, #149).

Based on my taste, this list fails.

Emilio, the blinding red hurts my face, so I didn't even attempt to read much past the first response. I should probably point out that I was pretty drunk when I posted this thread(as evidenced by the IT'S FRIDAY thread), so the cussing is due in part to that. I'm not so upset that I am going to storm the building, or even write an angry letter, just annoyed enough to bitch. I don't think I need to rethink anything. I just think you need to rethink listening to Rush.

Could you please explain "The Rush Defence" so that I can soundly trounce my brother any time he brings up Rush?

Emaline, I spent an entire trip in California switching between the two-disc Rush greatest hits comp and the Police's two-disc collection of the same. I can firmly say that I gave Rush multiple listens and still did not like it.

Rush are pretty much awful.  The Rush Defense (Defence?  Is that a British spelling?), I believe, is when people defend a band's artistic merit by pointing out how technically skilled the musicians are.

Might as well be called the Steve Vai defense (that's real American spelling, right there) because, aside from maybe his work with Zappa, Vai hasn't made anything really worth listening to. Which is a shame, because the motherfucker knows how to play a guitar.

Therefore, Rush are more prolific than Vai, and thus more suited to bear the name of the aphorism.

I'm not gonna bother with the rankings of most of the bands up there because, as stated before, most people on these boards are NOT their target audience.  There is one glaring error though... Kenny G?  Kenny G does not rock, nor roll, nor swing, nor groove.  Just thinking about him makes me gag a little bit.  Oh god, the hair.

since it is the best Beatles album, i disagree.

also, rush is cool, but i probably wouldn't put them on any list i made. it's all about the preference of who ever is making the list.

Revolver is the best Beatles album, guys. Anyone who says otherwise is spreading filthy lies.

I quite agree.

Because the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is shit. The architecture of the building is even lame. The same architect as the Louvre? please. It just doesn't fit anything about Rock at all. It is now, and was from its inception a history written from the wrong vantage point.
