Is there Happy Music?
« on: 21 Aug 2007, 14:49 »

Hi all,

Sometimes every song on the radio seems to be a sad one, and every record is about broken love.  I need some happy music to listen to, and would be profoundly grateful for any reccomendations.

thanks,

Happy music is overrated!

Try Bowling for Soup. They're kinda weird, though... like, really. But their music IS happier than most. Heck, they've played at Disneyland, if that tells you anything.

Yes, my recommendation is that you go and view the thread posted above, which is pretty much the same subject as this. I think there are a lot of great suggestions for happy stuff in that thread. Prolly don't wanna resurrect the thread though, as it has been dead for a few days and most likely smells pretty bad by now.

If there is going to be a thread where I don't recommend 'Mass Romantic' by the New Pornographers, it hasn't happened yet.
There was that one thread where you recommended hawkwind

No way dogg, the best track on that record is about killing yourself.

Try anything by Junior/Senior.

R.E.M.'s album Out of Time has some pretty happy songs on it.  Good luck finding it in mp3 format though.  I couldn't.

That thing about the mp3s is a joke right?

OP dude - if you can listen to all 7 minutes of 'Shrimp' by Mr Scruff and not be happy, you're probably not human. Cliche woo! but so true.

At this point I am once again forced to post the link to the fan-made video for Devin Davis's "Giant Spiders" and advise you to shut your eyes and just listen to the music.

Edguy. Seriously, it feels lame, and almost embarrassing at first, but its very uplifting and happy. There is humor and all the music just feels jolly. the songs New Age Messiah, Rise of the Morning Glory, Fairytale, Lavatory Love Machine, Life and Times of a Bonustrack, Painting on the Wall, and Out of Vogue are all great starting points. Be disgusted all you want at the suggestion, but seriously, once you get past the "cheesy 80's" thing, its very cheerful stuff. I listen to it all the time after I finish working at my depressingly shitty retail job, and instantly it does the trick.

Jeph's pretty much right about Junior Senior, but I have a soft spot for playing Daft Punk's "One More Time," as loud as f#&ing possible.

I wouldn't say  Architecture in Helsinki is "happy"...most of their songs have a kind of dark irony to them.  Remember "The Cemetery"?  Or even more so, parts of "Neverevereverdid."
