Yes? No?

I thought the original NWN was all right. Fun but a bit repetitive towards the end.

I don't know how well it'd work on Bootcamp, so I can't comment on that aspect.

NWN2, eh, it's better than NWN, as far as the single player campaign is concerned. There's less repetition, but more length-padding. It's worth going through once, and the expansion is worth going several times. It doesn't, however, have the robust community behind it like NWN did. I'd say yes, especially if you can get Mask of the Betrayer.

It's better than the original story-wise, but that isn't hard. The expansion, Mask of the Betrayer, has a much better story and ambience than any of the previous, and has a definite Baldur's Gate II/Planescape: torment vibe to it.

Edit: Posting as Kid posted... pretty much what he said.

The expansion is pretty sick.  I have a bear-god in my party.  At the end of the first chapter.  'Nuff said.

If you want a good role playing experience, get the Witcher. It's infinitely better.

NWM2, is much better than the first. If you even remotely liked the first one you're pretty much 100% to enjoy the second. Since I really can't stand Macs (It's the one mouse button....) and therfore have no Idea how much of a pain in the arse it would be to put bootcamp and windows onto one. So I can't tell you if it would be worth it or not. The game does rock, the Expansion is really excellent, so I'm sure you would enjoy it.

They're both really good.  The expansion is at least as good as the Witcher.  It all depends on what type of battle system you like.  d20, or timed attack combos.

I have to agree with all the comments about the expansion to NWN2.  It's pretty damn awesome.  The Witcher is also pretty good, although you have to be someone that appreciates the ironic and cheesy dialogue of most low-fantasy settings.

Mask of the betrayer was so hard. I started a new character, so maybe thats why. But still, too hard for me.

But I suck at video games, so go figure.

Having a little bit of D&D know-how always helps.  What did you try to play through it as?  Also, which NPC helpers did you end up using?

I played through the first five minutes and had no clue what to do. I think I was a wizard spec'd in conjuration.

Its not like it was hard, I'd just sick a level 8 monster on everything. Its just that I didn't know what to do.

Also, I think at the time I wasn't in the mood for stories in games (I usually am, but then and now I just don't really care, I just want to blast some things!) . And I shouldn't have been playing it at that time, but my brother bought me it :/ (as he usually does). If I ever feel like it again I'll give it another shot.

It didn't work on my laptop, so I lugged out (what my friend who helped me build it and I lovingly refer to as) "the beast tower".

A side panel missing, a fan that makes more noise than most air-conditioning units and 5 out of 6 USB ports that don't work.

It was worth it, just for the story, and I had never played the first one.

Go for it, says I.

Definitely go with the expansion as well as update it online.  NWN2 on it's own is a pain in the ass to navigate, but they got a lot of it fixed later after the outcry of WTF!

Actually, word on the Obsidian forums is that there will soon be a Mac port of NWN2.

Also, a second xpac.

How about some damn patches first. The game is STILL completely unplayable online, and thats what the NWN series is all about.

I think from the state that the game was in when it came out, to now, there have been so many improvements.

It went from being barely playable to manageable on my computer.

But if you've got a powerful machine, NWN2 is pretty good. And give the community a bit more time to catch up with the game. Building with the toolset has become exponentially more difficult, and for NWN 1 it took some time as well. It's been about a year and half since it came out. By the time that the second expansion pack is out (which has been announced) things will start getting off the ground.

And once they get things running smoothly this game is going to be sick to play online.

NWN 2 has been officially confirmed for Mac.

So, the final answer is: No, NWN 2 is not worth installing bootcamp and Windows on one of your Macs to play it.

Thread finished.

Indeed, if Mask of the Betrayer isn't ported along with it for several months, just bootcamp it.

NWN2 thread, rise from your grave and rescue my daughter!

Anyway, good a time as any to provide some information regarding the second NWN2 xpac:

This one's made to be more in the vein of Icewind Dale (most of the IWD developers reside at Obsidian anyway).

 - You create your entire party of 1-4, the game starts at 1st level and progresses up to about 15. There are various pre-made Joinable NPCs to round out the party.

 - New Overland Map, similar to recent Final Fantasy or old Ultima maps. You move in real-time and monsters will spot and pursue you, and depending on party skills you can discover certain things during travel.

 - Emphasis on trade, with a new economics / caravan system (not much info on this right now)

 - Game uses 3.5 ruleset but the story "foreshadows" 4e Forgotten Realms.

Oh yeah, when is this out? I hope NWN2 gets on Steam one of these days, I'd really like to play through it and Mask of the Betrayer.

Man, this is one of those games that I never got to play because of my shitty computer, but I'm getting a copy of NWN2 from a friend in a couple days and with my recently upgraded situation hopefully I'll finally be able to play this goddamn game.

If you can get past the fact there's a level cap at 20, and the shitty plotline, then I say go for it. It was a decent game in my opinion, not as fun as the first and all of it's epic mods but still fun.

Storm of Zehir went on sale today. Lacks the forward plot momentum of the other games, but has a couple of tricks up its sleeves. It's interesting.

If you really want it, I'd recommend that you get Parallels. It is actually pretty awesome.
