I love snakes.

I like too many animals for my own good... and the ones I've already got look incredibly tasty to many animals.

Hellz yeah. I've already decided I'm going to become a snake collector, of the safer, smaller constrictors that is. If I get rich I might consider keeping a burmese python, but at the moment my list of snakes to own goes as follows:

-ball python : check!
-corn snake -butter corn morph
-rosy boa
-kingsnake - inverted stripe morph
-green tree python (by far the most beautiful animals I have ever seen)

By the way, today's feeding day. Pictures will follow (in the form of links so the squeamish can be protected)

My friend's got an albino corn snake. She wanted a ball python, but when her mother saw it, she ran from the store screaming. The mother was more willing to put up with that little corn snake. They only had babies in the pet store, see. One of these days, she will walk into her daughter's room and will die of fright.

no, Chinchillas are naturally squished, they're like a rabbit scrunched down into a gerbil's body. Another pet I might like to have.

Yeah, corn snakes get to be about 6 feet don't they? That mom made a big mistake. I like albinos, but I like the butter corn or butter corn motley morphs better, they're warmer yellow tones and whatnot.

Chinchilla! *squeals like a 6 year old* When I want to bask in cuteness...I Google chinchilla's. And then I scream in shock and horror when coats made of chinchillas come up along with the pictures of the cuteness. And I must say, Mont was an incredibly cute kitten.

We had to put down my 17 year old miniature poodle Pepper last year. it gets lonely when she isn't sittin' on the couch next to me, progressively shifting to find a comfortable position until her butt is pointed directly at me so she can fart and make me gag and have to leave the room for a few minutes. God I miss that dog. Liver failure sucks.

However I have just recieved word form my future roomate that he's getting a kitten. New life replaces old I suppose.

I bring pictures of my sister's roommate's cats. I am over there enough that I feel attached to these little guys.

First there's Bottle Rocket

Then it's Candle

And Soybean

She has a fourth cat, whose name is Flannagen, but he doesn't like anyone but her, so getting a picture was impossible.

This is an old "family" picture.

The kingsnake in the back passed away in December.  She was the one who got me over my fear of snakes, as my wife is the reptile lover in the house.  Since the picture we have added Bull the rat, Henry the dog, and Tatsumi the snake.  For the snake lovers here is a link to more of his pictures - http://imageevent.com/richardsdm/tatsumi

I have very limited photos of my cat right now (the hard drive on my laptop died, so I have to wait until I get it back and upload all the crap on my external), so here are the ones I have in my photobucket:

Picture I took two years ago.

When he was a baby.

He's much fatter than this, so I'll get another one up later.

This one: Pic of a one-eyed cat.

My family used to live in my grandmothers home. She loved cats and at one point had something like 40. Of them all my dad only got close to a one-eyed cat. Eventually they all succumbed to leukemia. I always found it amazing how well animals can adapt to losses like limbs and eyes.

Not at the same time, and yeah all of them. I would probably have done something if they were my cats, but my grandmother had liver failure and so was a little crazy.

I've also had cats and various other pets too personal to simply use images from GIS for.

He is a Kunisar rat snake.  They are originally from the mountains of japan. It's funny, I'm used to having to keep reptiles warm, but he actually wants it to be about 65-70 degrees.

Well no. I have not actually seen a real live Chinchilla. I don't think anywhere sells them around here. Shall I just live in hope that actual Chinchillas are a whole lot cuter and less stumpy creepy red-eye-flash looking than the ones I see on the Internet?

omg, Chinchillas are -so cuuuuuute-, argh! I want one really bad, but I live in dorms and can't have anything other then fish, and keeping one at home would put it in imminate danger of being eaten. Stupid cats.
And I can't help but squeal a little everytime I open this thread and see that kitten with the shoe string.

Hey, i bought and snuck my snake into the dorms, as long as your roomate is cool with it you could literally keep anything in there lower than a cat/dog/ferret. Pretty sure Chinchillas don't really make any noises beyond the odd squeak.

Just remember to keep your door shut when you're in there, the people down the hall who owned a banded california kingsnake nearly got caught once, the cage was in the closet and the only thing keeping the RA from seeing it was me. Really close call.

They are actually the guys who gave me the idea of buying a snake in the first place. Bad influences, :P

Either I had never seen a chinchilla before, or I'd blocked them from my memory.  They look like the kind of animal that starts out all cute and fuzzy, but before you know it it's chewed holes in your favorite socks and pooped on your keyboard.  But you can't hate them because they're soft and fuzzy and their fur is the equivalent of MSG.

It sorta makes you wonder how the hell those things ever survived in the wild, or where in the hell they come from for that matter. Great, now I have to research it.

Edit: Right then, let's get started with the basic wikipedia article found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinchilla.

Notable parts of the Wiki entry include:

"Chinchillas are rabbit-sized, crepuscular rodents native to the Andes mountains in South America. Along with their relatives, viscachas, they belong to the family Chinchillidae."

"The animal (whose name literally means "little Chincha") is named after the Chincha people of the Andes, who wore its soft and dense fur. By the end of the 19th century, chinchillas had become quite rare due to hunting for their fur."

"Mathias F. Chapman, a mining engineer from California, was working in Chile in 1918 when he purchased a chinchilla as a pet and took a liking to it. He envisioned raising a whole herd of chinchillas and he applied to the Chilean government for permission to capture and transport several animals to the US."

"Chinchillas make many noises, including barks, chirps, and squeaks."

Quote
including barks, chirps, and squeaks

Yes. That is a chinchilla, holding a sticker that he has just removed from the squash beside him.

TINY FEET!

For the record, I've spent several nighttime hours (they are nocturnal, which is GREAT for people who work all day, but don't want to depress an animal by leaving it alone for eight to ten hours a day) with Charlie, and he didn't make one sound... except when I almost stepped on him.
