Penny Pincher gamers.
« on: 26 Sep 2007, 06:13 »

Well, there wasnt a thread involving this (though there are many freeware threads, but thats different) Post the best games you've ever played... that are under 20 dollars.

One of my favorite games is Space Channel 5, you can get it for only 10 bucks at a record exchange, and it has flippin' Micheal Jackson! Though, be warned its only 5 hours long (at the most 7)

Another great budget gamer game is Freedom Force. You can probably snatch this underplayed title (which is made by the developers of bioshock mind you) for 5 BUCKS! 5 bucks for an rpg, with epic amounts of mods. I would definately pick this one up if you're a comic fan.

Counterstrike 1.6
Guild Wars (look hard enough and you can get chapters for under 20 bucks each)
Defcon
that game where you eat paint chips, that one is free though.

Dude, I just don't buy video game systems until they're obsolete, then I buy all the used games I want, cheap. So, I'm always behind the times, but if I get stuck somewhere in a game, there are about fifty walkthroughs to choose from.

Are you talking about used titles, or budget titles?

Don't buy used games. They're a ripoff, unreliable, and none of the money goes back to the people who make the games.

I've never had trouble with used games. I look at the disk before I buy it.

I'm more interested in getting things cheap than giving money to the people who made the game.

I should mention that I'm talking N64 games and other systems they don't make games for anymore, for the most part. I couldn't buy them new even if I wanted to.

Either or, on used or budget.

Anyway, its Freedom Force not Freedom Fighters. Just to make sure we're on the same page.

Though, I heard excellent things about Freedom Fighters. So I guess we can throw that one in too!

Umm...Kingdom Under Fire was fun.  Most of the games I own are usually $50 titles, though.

There are ALOT of great Nippon Ichi games that I enjoy alot.

Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave, La Pucelle Tactics (havent played yet), Disgaea 2 (might not be 20 bucks yet).
All of the above are strat-rpgs that offer an assload of content for people that play it. They're all kind of the same though, with minor alterations. Phantom brave you use items such as trees and rocks as weapons, and you fuse them into one of these items for about 5 turns, then they revert back to nomalcy. Disgaea uses geo-squares that do something special (-20 armor, no entry, improved attacks, invincibility). Makai kingdom uses tanks and facililities.

These are some AMAZING rpgs that everyone should pick up.

Jet Set Radio Future, I think I picked it up for my Xbox for 5 dollars.
Okage: Shadow King, I picked this up for my friend for about 5.

the local EB Games had a discount bin where every game in it was under 8

oh, and when I was in Best Buy I say a copy of Halo that was going for 9

you can get any of these on ebay for dirt cheap

if you're into strategy:
Romance of the Three Kingdoms (especially 8)
Dynasty Warriors (any)

Fighters: Tekken Tag remains king of the 3D fighting genre

Other: Shadow of the Colossus
i got it on release and paid a full $49.99, but since its now a GH, you can get it for the spare change in your sofa.
it's a keeper and absolutely gorgeous in every way. still remains one of my favorite gaming experiences.

And they certainly aren't strategy at all. Hey look, run up to these dudes and mash the attack button.

Counterstrike 1.6
*blink*

Counterstrike is a terrible game.  It is a horrible game, in fact.  It is my least favorite first person shooter.  Most people that play any other FPS games frequently tell people who suck at them to "go back to playing counterstrike" as a very sincere insult.

ANYWAY:

Any of the Ratchet and Clank games, you'll be able to get for under $20 anymore and they all kick ass.

Romance of the 3 kingdoms is strategy.

Ah!

A good strat. is Civ4! I bought it for 20 bucks last year, black friday deal. NO STEAL! It was the best 20 bucks I've ever spent!

That same day, Neverwinter Nights 2. Not as good as Civ4... buggy as SHIT... but still pretty good. I liked the characters and i like how close it stuck to the DnD universe. Still, BUGGY! I got it for only 20 bucks though, so its cool.
