Y'know, honestly, I can't say as I've enjoyed more than a handful of things I've ever read by Morrison.

i read the first one and really couldn't get into it. I was surprised because i absolutely loved his Arkham Asylum with Dave McKean. Maybe i just need to give it another shot...

You need to stick with it until at least the end of the second volume.  The first vol is pretty confusing unless you've already read the story.  but on the plus side, King Mob summons the ghost of John Lennon to be his spirit guide, whats not to like about that?

The Invisibles is half the reason comics are my favorite entertainment medium.

Grant Morrison is a complete badass, and I love him to death.

That said I have read all of The Invisibles at least 4 times, and I still do not completely understand it.

It gets pretty nonsensical towards the end. Ironically, I found the Wikipedia article about it to be useful.

Yeah, the second and third to last issues have a lot of unintelligible moments. Partially because one artist jus plain didn't draw what Grant scripted, partially because it was very dense with a lot of stuff that had been implied earlier, but not really stated explicitly. I find the last volume to be nigh-impossible to comprehend without a guide of some sort.

I have a feeling that I didn't find the Invisibles quite as crazy and far out as a lot of people. I think that's because I came to it having read Illuminatus! and Magick Without Tears though. There's a good few references/rip-offs, subtle or overt of Illuminatus! in the whole thing. The dolphins spring to mind instantly...

Best bit of the first volume has got to be when Morrison re-works 120 Days of Sodom as '120 Days of Sod-All'. Classic.

trivia: The Matrix rips off of Invisibles. Wachowskii brothers didn't acknowledge it until TEH INTERNETS nerds raged about it on message boards.
finding out about it is one friendly google search away :)

read this when i was a teen (thanks to older nerdy sis) and it was like some kind of right of passage into adulthood to be able to grasp a handful of the concepts presented there.
still read it from time to time and there's something new every time. <3 morrison

i also recommend Morrison's take on ANIMAL MAN and his run on New X men (in case you've been living under a rock or tank or whatever).

Dude, the Matrix ripped off everything. Give me a copy of Neuromancer, Ghost in the Shell, The Shockwave Rider, a couple of PK Dick shorts (especially The Second Variety), UBIK, Simulacra and Simulation, The Invisibles, The Once and Future King, the New Testament and a sharp scalpel and I could William Burroughs together an almost exact copy of the matrix' script.

Of course, its best not to try these things, because then we get too far into the incestuous nature of this type of fiction. No one really wants to reflect that GitS is a rip-off of Neuromancer itself, or that Neuromancer has strong elements of The Shockwave Rider (which was after all the first novel to ever bring up the idea of a computer virus). And I've already pointed out the similiarites between Illuminatus! and the Invisibles, which are much greater than The Invisibles and The Matrix...

Ultimately it just gets nerdy.

haha true true.

although i do remember the Wachowskii brothers publically acknowledging their use of the Invisibles as a key "inspiration" for the matrix shortly after release, post being hounded by "internets nerd onslaught attack!". probably why it stands out in my head.

So, for the people (me) who would rather hear what you have to say about the comic then what wikipedia does, could someone explain what exactly the comic is about?

It's sort of like if Aleister Crowley was an anarchist comics nerd.
